Melinda Moskal
Welcome. My name is Mel, and I have been providing therapeutic services across many levels of care since 2012. I specialize in guiding clients to build sustainable change through the development of practical skills and behaviors that fit in with their current life circumstances. You will find my practice to be straight-forward and behaviorally-focused, but also empathetic and trauma-informed. Together, we will explore barriers to your well-being, and find realistic solutions to build progress you can feel.
First session
First of all, I am so glad you're here. Our first session will be us getting to know each other, including discussing your background, your life circumstances, and what brought you to therapy. We will also start to develop a treatment plan that includes overall goals, as well as benchmarks that we measure along the way. Therapy should be a client-directed but collaborative process, and that starts from Day 1.
Strengths
You will find me to be very empathetic, but also down to earth. I understand that your time is valuable, and I want to maximize that time so you can start feeling better as soon as possible. I believe that transparent, direct communication is important, so I am very straight-forward - there will be no dancing around difficult subjects. My goal is for you to always leave our sessions feeling clear about what was discussed as well as having a plan to make progress. If you're ready to "do the work" in therapy, I'm your girl.
Ideal clients
I work best with individuals who are ready to "get their hands dirty" in therapy. Ideally, they will be motivated for treatment and able to accept feedback. Additionally, they will be ready to engage in self-reflection, identify barriers to progress, and implement practical, sustainable solutions. Being able to engage in treatment through the lens of a growth mindset is also important, as is the ability to take accountability for progress and outcomes.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
I approach every session and individual through a trauma-informed lens. I recognize the impact that any trauma can have on someone's functioning and strive to integrate principals of safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural responsiveness into treatment. My goal is always to support healing while minimizing the risk of re-traumatization, fostering resilience, and working towards recovery.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT with my clients to build a goal-oriented, evidence-based approach to treatment that helps them identify and change maladaptive thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that contribute to psychological distress. We will work on building practical coping skills, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral strategies to improve emotional regulation, functioning, and overall well-being.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I understand that not everyone has the time or resources to engage in long, process-based treatment. I therefore use solution-focused therapy to help those clients achieve significant functional improvements within the time constraints of insurance-funded care by concentrating on clear goals, existing strengths, practical solutions, and measurable progress rather than prolonged exploration of problems.
