Hi there and welcome to VitalMind Health! My name is Kristina, and I am a board-certified nurse practitioner in both adult medicine and psychiatric-mental health with 13 years of experience. My work focuses on a variety of conditions, including anxiety, mood disorders, and focus issues. I treat my patients as individuals, and do not define them based on their condition. My goal is to build a genuine connection with mutual respect, as we work together to uncover solutions.
First session
I will ask about a variety of symptoms to get a better understanding of what you are currently experiencing, as well as reviewing your medical, psychiatric and social history to guarantee a comprehensive evaluation. I also offer guidance to those who are simply confused by treatments previously recommended by other providers, who are seeking potential alternatives or questioning their diagnosis. I know it can be scary to step out of your comfort zone, but understand that this is a collaborative effort and we are in this together. You may share as much or as little of your past experiences. I am here to work with you to consider the most effective treatment, to feel heard and understood in a safe and inclusive space.
Strengths
My background in both psychiatry and medicine has shaped the way I care for my patients. Mental health symptoms can come from a combination of factors, so I often find ruling out medical causes and utilizing non-pharmacological approaches to be as beneficial as medication. Prescribing medication is only a small part of your healing journey as we both work towards more sustainable treatment outcomes.
Ideal clients
I am an ADHD-certified clinical services provider. Under recent New Jersey state regulations, in-person visits are required only in the following situations: Within the first 30 DAYS AFTER A TELEHEALTH INTAKE, and ONCE A YEAR if you are prescribed a stimulant medication. While I find it beneficial to use benzodiazepines or sedatives on an as-needed basis, my scope of practice does not include those requiring monthly refills of these medications. I DO NOT approve a leave of absence or FMLA after an initial visit. Before considering a leave of absence, I recommend at least 3 additional visits so I can better understand your history and circumstances.
Treatment methods
Supportive
I help establish a therapeutic alliance using empathy, strengthening coping skills, self-esteem, and awareness to help my patients manage daily stressors and develop resilience.
Psychoeducation
Using a collaborative approach to care, I aim to provide my patients with clear and individualized treatment to better understand their condition through discussion and problem-solving. The goal is to empower my patients to better manage their symptoms as they navigate life experiences.
