I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Florida with over 20 years of experience specializing in Adoption Competence and fluency in multiple languages. With dual Master’s degrees in Counseling and Special Education, I integrate various therapeutic approaches, including CBT, Solution Focused, Attachment Theory, Anxiety and Depression, to support individuals facing mental health challenges. My work also focuses on helping at-risk youth and families from diverse backgrounds, with a strong commitment to community outreach and educational interventions.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where they can share what brings them to therapy. I’ll start by gathering information about their background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. We’ll discuss what they hope to achieve and begin setting a plan that aligns with their needs. The session is also an opportunity for clients to ask questions and get comfortable with the process. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and ready to begin their therapeutic journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider include my extensive experience, my identity as an African American male, and my trauma-informed approach. With over 20 years in the field, I bring deep expertise, cultural awareness, and a unique perspective that allows me to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. My ability to build trust and foster meaningful relationships across different communities makes me a uniquely effective and empathetic therapist.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a treatment approach I often use to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, leading to healthier behaviors and emotional responses. In my practice, I guide clients through exercises that connect thoughts, feelings, and actions, empowering them to develop practical coping skills. By breaking down distressing thoughts and reframing them, clients gain better control over their emotions and can approach challenges more effectively.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a foundational component in my practice, where I focus on helping clients understand their mental health conditions, symptoms, and the impact of different experiences like trauma. By providing clear, accessible information, clients are empowered to make informed decisions about their treatment and coping strategies. I incorporate psychoeducation into sessions to teach clients about topics like the stress response, brain function, or specific therapeutic techniques, making the therapeutic process collaborative. This approach not only reduces stigma but also fosters self-awareness, which is key to managing symptoms and promoting long-term recovery.

Attachment-based

Attachment-Based Therapy is a method I use to explore how early relationships and attachment patterns influence a client’s current behavior, emotions, and relationships. In my practice, I work with clients to understand the impact of their attachment style—whether secure or insecure—on their ability to form healthy relationships. This approach often involves exploring childhood experiences, building trust, and addressing relational wounds. My goal is to help clients develop healthier connections by fostering secure attachments and repairing old relational patterns that may be hindering their emotional well-being.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a strengths-based approach I use to help clients identify and build on their existing resources to achieve their goals. Rather than focusing on past problems, SFBT emphasizes creating actionable solutions in the present. In my practice, I guide clients to envision their preferred future, set specific goals, and identify small, achievable steps to reach them. This approach is particularly effective for clients seeking quick, targeted support, as it encourages positive change by focusing on what’s working well and how to do more of it.
