New to Grow
Welcome! My name is Meghan O'Brien. I have been a practicing Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 25 years. My work experience has been in medical and psychiatric settings, residential facilities, community mental health clinics, and private practices. I've been fortunate enough to work with all age groups with a variety of challenges and struggles. In addition to my professional work, I have many years of real life experience that help me to have a deeper understanding of what my clients are going through. I hope you will consider inviting me to walk with you on your journey towards healing. I look forward to meeting you! If you are struggling with negative thoughts that are impacting your mood and interfering with your daily life, please know that you are not alone and that there is hope for you. We will partner together to identify and interpret the core issues that are influencing your thoughts and feelings. Together we will develop goals to work towards solutions and ease your most challenging concerns. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment to promote your healing. I would be honored to guide you toward the life you want to live. Seeking therapy is a huge step towards wellness and I invite you to share your journey with me!
Your first session with me will focus on getting to know each other. I welcome you to come as you are. I encourage you to share your story and struggles at your own pace. We will work together to determine what your goals and expectations are. Some part of this session will center around identifying your needs with a focus on how I can best support you. If you feel comfortable at the end of our time together, we can schedule another session to continue creating a path towards your health and healing.
My primary therapeutic approach centers around empathy, compassion and acceptance. I take time and care to create a warm and safe environment. I prioritize cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients because of it's power to generate lasting change. I work well with young adults and adults who may be experiencing low self esteem, difficult life transitions or grief and loss. Nevertheless, I also welcome a diverse range of clients with varying mental health struggles. Together we will identify patterns of behavior that are no longer productive and explore the negative thoughts that may be holding you back. We will work on developing self awareness and insight so that you can understand yourself more clearly. I will encourage you to rely on and work with your natural strengths to give you a sense of control over your therapeutic process. Please feel free to connect with me if you can relate to anything you've read. We can meet and decide if we'd be a good fit!
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a treatment that I utilize to help clients identify and change the negative thought patterns that may be contributing to unhelpful behaviors. It is such a pleasure to witness the sense of freedom and peace that comes from gaining mastery over intrusive negative thinking that can lead to several mental health issues. After we have discovered what these thoughts are we work together to replace them with more positive and affirming ones. I have experience in treating adults and children experiencing phobias, anxiety, depression and trauma. Consider what negative thoughts could be disrupting your life. I look forward to guiding you on this journey toward healing.
Compassion Focused
I provide all of my clients with a great deal of compassion and understanding. it's very important to me to create a warm and safe environment that encourages freedom to express struggles and feelings. You are deserving of compassion for all that you've been through in your life. I believe that understanding can open the door to acceptance of yourself and others. I will do my very best to provide the compassion you need to move forward in your life.
Grief Therapy
I strongly believe that loss of any kind deserves attention and care. Whether it is the death of a loved one, a broken relationship, loss of a pet or simply an emptiness in our lives. It is essential as a provider to bear witness to and walk beside clients in their time of grief. I have experience leading grief therapy groups for children and adults and have worked extensively in medical facilities providing support to patients and families in life or death crises. I maintain that one of my most important tasks as a therapist is to respect each individual's experience and process of loss. This opens up wide space for healing and recovery.
