About
Hey there! I'm Taryn, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. Specializing in LGBTQ issues, religious deconstruction, and faith transitions, I provide affirming support for individuals and couples dealing with trauma, PTSD, and identity complexities. My focus extends to those exploring deeper self-understanding. This involves processing attachment wounds and the impacts of strained relationships. I grasp the intricate dynamics inherent in navigating the intersections of LGBTQ identities, religious backgrounds, and faith transitions. Acknowledging the challenges and joys inherent in these journeys, my dedication lies in cultivating a secure and inclusive space for individuals and couples. Additionally, I offer support to neurodivergent individuals, helping them navigate a neurotypical-centric world. Using a trauma-informed, person-centered approach and therapeutic techniques like attachment theory, trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness, my goal is to empower individuals on their unique journeys.

First session
In our first session together, we'll review your intake assessment. I'll ask you some follow up questions so I can get to know you and learn more about what promoted you to pursue therapy. We'll talk about the changes you want to see in your life, and create treatment goals together that are specifically tailored to you and your needs. You can ask me any questions you might have about therapy and the treatment process. My goal is for you to feel comfortable and empowered throughout our journey together.
Strengths
I infuse warmth, empathy, and curiosity into my work, genuinely enjoying getting to know each individual I work with. Acknowledging the uniqueness of every person, I employ an eclectic therapy approach. Encouraging authenticity, I bring my genuine self to each session. I believe in the healing power of humor in therapy, so don't hesitate to share that painfully relatable meme! My experience spans diverse settings, including school-based (pre-k through 12th grade), outpatient counseling centers, and a college counseling center. Much of my clinical background has focused on supporting individuals dealing with trauma and relationship issues.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves through processing attachment wounds and relationship issues. I have a passion for working with LGBTQIA+ populations, particularly navigating family relationships and religious/spiritual trauma and faith transitions. I also work with many neurodivergent folks to provide support navigating the neurotypical-centric world around us.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I completed basic training to practice Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) through EMDRIA in 2021.
