Ashley Ryan Cook

LMFT (she/her)1 year of experience

I'm Ashley, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California offering telehealth therapy to women who are high-performing on the outside and quietly struggling on the inside. I specialize in anxiety, depression, burnout, and late-diagnosed ADHD, especially the kind that hides behind a full calendar and a "she's so put together" reputation. My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, attachment-based therapy, and mindfulness, and my goal is to help you stop white-knuckling through life and start building something that actually feels sustainable. Therapy with me isn't about fixing what's broken, it's about finally having a space where you don't have to perform, and building a life that fits who you actually are.

First session

Our first session is really about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what brought you to therapy, what's been going on in your life, and what you're hoping to get out of this work. I'll also share a bit about how I work so you can get a feel for whether we're a good fit. There's no pressure to have it all figured out or to dive into the deep end right away, because you set the pace. By the end of our first session, you should have a clearer sense of what we'd focus on together and what the path forward could look like. Think of it less as an evaluation and more as a real conversation.

Strengths

I see what other people miss. Many of my clients have been told they're "fine" by previous providers, because they present well, because they're articulate, because they've gotten really good at holding it all together. I'm trained to look underneath that. I understand how anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and burnout overlap and mask each other, especially in women who've spent their whole lives compensating. I'll gently challenge you when it matters, celebrate your progress when you can't see it yourself, and never let you shrink in this space. I bring clinical depth with real warmth, and I take the therapeutic relationship seriously. You deserve a therapist who's as intentional about your care as you are about everything else in your life.

Ideal clients

You're driven, capable, and probably the person everyone else leans on. From the outside, your life looks like it's working. But underneath, you're running on anxiety, overthinking everything, and wondering why nothing ever feels like enough. Maybe you've been told you're "too sensitive" or "just stressed." Maybe you've started to suspect there's something deeper going on like ,ADHD, old relational wounds, burnout that rest alone won't fix. You're not looking for generic coping skills or someone to just nod along. You want a therapist who gets it, who'll be honest with you, and who can help you build a life that actually feels like yours.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help you recognize the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, especially the patterns that keep you stuck. Together, we'll identify the automatic thoughts and core beliefs driving things like perfectionism, self-doubt, or anxiety spirals, and practice replacing them with more balanced, realistic perspectives. CBT gives you concrete, practical tools you can use between sessions to start feeling more in control of your day-to-day experience.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is about learning to stop fighting the difficult thoughts and feelings that show up and instead, building a life that actually matters to you. I use ACT to help you get some distance from the inner critic, the "should" voice, and the anxiety that pulls you away from what you care about most. We'll work on clarifying your values and taking meaningful action even when things feel uncomfortable, so you're living intentionally rather than just getting through the day.

Attachment-based

So much of what shows up in anxiety, people-pleasing, and relationship struggles has roots in our earliest relational experiences. I use attachment-based approaches to help you understand the patterns you developed to stay safe and connected growing up and how those same patterns might be creating challenges for you now. By exploring your attachment style in a safe, nonjudgmental space, we work toward building more secure, fulfilling relationships with others and with yourself.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I integrate mindfulness into our work to help you slow down and tune into what's actually happening in your mind and body rather than running on autopilot or getting swept up in worry about the future. Many of my clients are so used to pushing through and staying "on" that they've lost touch with their own signals. Mindfulness practices help you build awareness of your emotions and stress responses in real time, so you can respond intentionally instead of reacting out of habit. It's not about clearing your mind, it's about learning to be present with yourself, even when things feel hard.
