I will never tell you what to do, I will ask you where you want to be. Therapy is a journey, and should we work together, please know how honored I am to travel with you for a time. While my background is eclectic, and I am trained in DBT, CBT, and psychodynamic, I have found my best work to be in the realm of the existential. Finding our own purpose in life, what does it mean to us through the lens of our experience, and how can we make sense of it all, in this absurd world? That's the crux. What are we afraid of, and why? If you are ready to work on those questions, I am quite sure our sessions will be what you are after. I have been working in the field of mental health for over thirty years. I have worked across various milieus, utilizing a wide array of modalities. I am accepting new clients. At this time, I am only providing therapy via telehealth. I have found it to be an effective platform for many and certainly makes sessions more accessible to many busy schedules. I will work on fees with you and will provide you with an invoice for insurance.
We will start with "Why now?" I often find that clients have been suffering for some time, but there is a specific catalyst that brings them in on that first session. From there, once we establish the premise, we go for the existential meat and figure out our goals if our space affords us this. It will be done on your timeline, at your pace.
Existential is truly where I think the heart of it lies-"What is the purpose? What is the meaning? Why are we here?" This, combined with tools for CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic will help us go deep. The same tools may be used in a solution-focused approach, depending upon how fast a client feels they need to go.
Being able to go for the meat of the problem. Working to uncover the true source of the pain, as we rely on the rapport that we've established. Being able to see when we are not letting ourselves succeed, when we are trying to run from what may be causing the suffering. Being an empathetic person for you to feel safe with when relating your very personal feelings and issues.
