Dr. Melody Kia
I use EMDR, IFS, Jungian therapy, EFT, and culturally sensitive therapy to help you make sense of the patterns that keep pulling you back into the same pain, doubt, or disconnection. My approach is warm, thoughtful, and depth-oriented, but also practical. Together, we look beneath the surface at the wounds, inner conflicts, and relationship dynamics shaping your life so you can build greater clarity, self-trust, and emotional freedom.
First session
In our first session, we’ll spend time getting a better understanding of what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve been carrying, and what you’re hoping will feel different. I’ll ask some questions about your history, current concerns, relationships, and goals, but the pace will be gentle and collaborative. You do not need to have everything figured out before we begin. The first session is simply a place to start making sense of things together.
Strengths
I bring warmth, honesty, and a strong ability to listen beneath the surface. I’m interested in what people say, but also in what they avoid, repeat, protect, long for, and carry quietly. My approach stands out because I work with the whole person: their history, relationships, culture, dreams, body, emotions, and inner conflicts so the work can lead to real understanding, not just temporary relief.
Ideal clients
I work with adult individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or caught in patterns they do not fully understand. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, family wounds, life transitions, identity questions, or the effects of past experiences that still feel present. I am especially well suited for clients who want therapy to go deeper than surface-level coping skills. My work is a good fit for people who are curious about themselves, open to reflection, and wanting to understand not only what hurts, but why it keeps showing up so they can move through life with more clarity, self-trust, and choice.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR to help clients work through painful or stuck memories in a way that feels steady and contained. We go at your pace, with a lot of attention to safety, so the past can feel less alive in the present.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I pay attention to the cultural, family, religious, immigrant, and social contexts that shape a person’s life. I don’t assume one version of healing fits everyone.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I use IFS to help clients understand the different parts of themselves that may be scared, protective, angry, ashamed, or exhausted. The goal is not to get rid of any part of you, but to help you relate to yourself with more compassion and less inner conflict.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I use EFT to help clients understand the emotions and attachment needs underneath conflict, distance, or repeated relationship patterns. It can help people speak more honestly, feel less alone, and create more secure connection.
Jungian
I use Jungian therapy to explore the deeper patterns, images, dreams, and stories that show up in your life. Sometimes what feels confusing on the surface has a deeper meaning underneath, and therapy can help bring that into awareness.
