Jonathan Frankel
I work with individuals dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. I use a solution-focused approach that targets your specific needs and includes homework between sessions to help you make meaningful progress. Therapy is a collaborative process. I use motivational interviewing to help you identify sources of stress and anxiety, then provide tools and skills to lessen these disruptive feelings. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and family system patterns.
First session
During our first session, I first provide an outline of what I would like to cover. I then ask each client to provide a quick overview of why they are seeking therapy. I then describe my background and experience. I share how my skills and experience can address the client's main issue seeking therapy. I go over Informed consent, limits of confidentiality and HIPAA provisions. This is followed by a discussion of any information Grow Therapy has provided me prior to this session including any measurement surveys. I try to end the session with goal setting for the next few sessions and homework for the next session.
Strengths
I am one of a handful of therapists in the country that has both an extensive mental health and business background. I have over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field covering individual, couples and group therapy. I have worked with refugee groups, people of color, teens, middle-aged and older adults and mental health advocacy. On the business side, I was the executive director of a non-profit housing development, investment manager for variety of social purpose groups and asset manager and senior finance officer for small and large commercial real estate assets. This unique background helps a select group of clients deal with work place stress and anxiety.
Ideal clients
I like working with adults between the ages of 25 to 50 years of age. I find these clients motivated to learn more about behavior that causes anxiety, stress and depression. Clients of this age group appreciate my older age, business background and life expriences.
Treatment methods
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I have used solution focused treatment for 8 years in my private practice. I find it helpful for people suffering from heightened anxiety and depressed mood. Central to this modality is assigning weekly homework which helps my clients implement changes in their behavior discussed during each session.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing to learn more about the factors that are underlying the client's level of anxiety, stress and depressed mood. I find this method helps guide clients' in a positive direction towards understanding what lies beneath these uncomfortable feelings.
