Hi! I'm Sylvia a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in South Carolina. I have actively been practicing therapy for about 13 years however, I have been in the behavioral health field for almost 20 years. I like to believe helping others become their best self is my calling!
In our first session we will start with brief introductions. I will gain a better understanding of what your expectations are as a client and we will develop goals that you would like to work on. We will also identify what therapeutic modalities may work best for you.
Having been a therapist for over 13 years and being in the behavioral health field for almost 20, I have developed a toolkit of different therapeutic modalities to work with many different diagnoses. I have compassion, empathy, and a genuine interest in others as well as an ability to develop strong, trusting, and non-judgmental relationships with clients. I possess good listening and communication skills and am flexible and adaptable with the use of treatments.
I work with clients of all ages, including young children with behavioral disturbances or academic challenges, to young adults just beginning on their career journeys as well as older adults who make be in or approaching retirement age. My clients are always eager to improve but at times get stuck and don't have the tools necessary to make the changes they desire.
I support children and their parents in strengthening supportive relationships through Child Parent Psychotherapy
I have utilized CBT over the course of my career to help clients identify and solve concerns that may be blocking positive growth and gainful life experiences.
By utilizing Motivational Interviewing during sessions, I have been able to help clients identify their motivations and feeling thereby changing their own behaviors.
