Hello, my name is Sandy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Pennsylvania. My role as a social worker/therapist is to engage with each individual client by meeting you where you are. I have met with clients for support and coaching, I have educated couples on parenting, and I have met with clients with more complex issues such as PTSD. I use an eclectic, strength focused approach to work toward meeting identified goals.
Our first session would be an introduction, to determine if we are a good clinical fit. I would share professional details about myself, educate on the importance of safety, confidential and your participation in treatment. The remainder of the initial session with be an assessment, or questions, that help me to see a more wholistic picture of you as the client. Typically when you leave this session, you should be confident that you want to continue with me and you and I will have a clear understanding of the identified problem/goal we will always be working to reach.
As a provider I naturally practice empathetic listening, I am open minded, strength focused therapist with years of experience in substance use, community mental health agencies, schools, private practice and with veterans. This experience is valuable, in that i am able to tap into this experience to better serve a variety of populations with complex needs.
Although I practice using an eclectic, strength based approach, CBT is the most utilized evidenced based practice (EBP), as it is the foundation of most other EBPs used in my practice including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Motivational Interviewing is an approach that I practice with each client who want to effect change with themselves. Being able to assist a client with increasing awareness, shifting perspectives and becoming the best version of themselves using strategies mastered over 20 years, is very rewarding part of what I do.
Psycho education is the foundation of my practice. Increasing awareness, through education is paramount, because if we are not aware of an issue or ways to problem solve the issue, we can often feel stuck. But through psycho education, while using an evidenced based approach, education/awareness is increased, strategies/coping skills are learned and practiced, which motivates change/growth can occur.
Helping clients to improve using a solution focused brief therapy approach, does so in a time oriented way. Within my practice, I collaborate with each individual client, treatment plan goals to accomplish and reach identified treatment goal. This “episode” of care, is an expectation that you, the client, willl work to reach measurable goals, in a proposed time. Which indicates increased abilities/ tools to manage identified problem. Clients also understand that should there be any new identified problems in the future, I am here to help facilitate your reaching idefied measure goal for an improved quality of life.
