As a licensed mental health counselor, my role is to walk alongside you and provide you with helpful tools while you are working through obstacles that have made life challenging for you. In my practice, I work with children, adolescents, and adults as they are navigating through school, work, home, and relationships. I have five years of clinical experience working with clients with differing mental health difficulties from trauma, suicidal ideation, crisis management, life transitions, and more. While we cannot change the difficulties that you have experienced in the past, we can work together to resolve any current challenges in your life and work to better manage future challenges. I provide short- and long-term therapy working primarily with mood and personality disorders. I use evidence-based approaches and my training includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma Informed Care. If you are ready to make change in your life and begin to achieve your goals, together we can work to enhance your quality of life and create a life worth living. Remember, seeking help is the first step in your healing journey. Thank you for taking the first step in seeking treatment.
In the first session together, clients can expect a brief introduction to begin building therapeutic rapport and start discussing goals for therapy in future sessions. We will review material from the intake paperwork and discuss any further areas of life relevant to the client's unique presenting concerns.
Having worked with client's with varying mental health challenges I have a unique ability to treat individuals in crisis who are struggling with issues related to suicidal ideation and self harming behaviors while maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship. A therapeutic alliance is crucial for change to be made and it is something I strive to work towards with the right amount of humor, honesty, and curiosity.
Brooke Bartels offers therapy covered by Managed Health Services (Managed Medicaid), Medicaid - Managed Health Services and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Indiana.
I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist clients in understanding their emotions and learning methods to better manage emotions, especially when in a crisis situation. DBT is helpful in learning about emotions and distress tolerance skills while also understanding the self through mindfulness practice. I have personal experience working in a DBT department providing services to individuals and groups teaching DBT skills and practicing skills in session and in daily life.
I utilize Trauma Informed Care as a framework for understanding client's unique experience. Trauma Informed Care is essential for client's to be able to heal from past experiences while also learning to navigate and fully immerse themselves in the present moment. Trauma Informed Care is healing the wound, not just putting a band aid on the pain.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. CBT assists clients in revealing unhelpful thought patterns and begin to create new, healthy thought processes. CBT is utilized to help clients gain more control of their behaviors by helping them understand and reframe their cognitive distortions.
