Dr. Irma Sandoval-Arocho
I am a New Jersey licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a Doctorate in Social Work and over 25 years of social work practice experience, including 12 years as a practicing clinician. I am also licensed in Puerto Rico and am bilingual in English and Spanish. I am a Latiné/x, first-gen therapist, social work educator, and program leader. I provide collaborative, strength-based, and culturally affirming care and strive to create a space where individuals feel supported, capable, and empowered to succeed. In our work together, you don’t have to perform, translate, or minimize your story. We’ll gently untangle people‑pleasing, imposter feelings, and generational expectations while honoring your resilience. I will help you build boundaries, self‑compassion, and a life that feels like yours. All services are virtual and convenient for your needs.
First session
This comprehensive first session gathers your history, goals, and current challenges. Includes clinical interview, screening tools, and collaborative treatment planning. We establish trust, clarify focus areas, and schedule ongoing sessions. All sessions are conducted virtually using a HIPAA-secure platform.
Strengths
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’re used to handling everything on your own. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported from the very beginning. My work is collaborative and focused on helping you move toward a life that feels more grounded, balanced, and possible again.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is navigating life transitions and is looking for solution-focused support. They are often young professionals, college students, single parents, and caregivers trying to manage everything on their own. They may find that they are reluctant to seek support from others and are fearful of disappointing family. They tend to carry the burden for everyone but neglect themselves along the way.
Treatment methods
Compassion-Focused
I provide the space for clients to express their situation and needs in a nonjudgemental way.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I honor diverse backgrounds and enter sessions with curiosity and respect.
Humanistic
My approach is person-centered and strength-based. I work with you and not against you.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
In session, I help clients build on their strengths and move toward their preferred future.
Trauma-Informed Care
I acknowledge that lived experiences interconnect to everyday living and consider the impact of these experiences without blame.
