Hello! I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Indiana. I’ve been in practice for 7 years in community mental health. I received my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Purdue University Northwest. I work with adults on adjustment issues, life stressors, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other issues. When working with you, I like to learn more about your experiences and how they’ve impacted your life. In understanding there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to counseling, I learn from you what your preferences are for treatment and work collaboratively to achieve your counseling goals in an authentic way. I am currently accepting individuals who live outside of Porter & Starke Counties.
In our first session we will get to know one another and what your goals are for therapy. From there we will discuss course of treatment and set a plan.
My greatest strength is working with you to a) identify the root cause of your challenges and b) create a plan that leads to measurable success.
I’ve been using CBT since I started practicing in 2017. It’s helped many clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety and depression. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.
Mindfulness is a core factor in emotional well-being. It helps manage depression, anxiety, stress, and other factors by providing insight to our emotions. It helps boost focus and concentration and improve relationships. We will do a combination of reflection and activities to help improve mindfulness abilities and, in turn, work to manage emotions and understand your thought patterns.
CPT is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy used for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s generally a 12-ish session therapy that teaches you to evaluate any negative or upsetting thoughts you’ve had since the trauma occurred. It’s a homework-based therapy that has shown great success in symptom reduction. With CPT, we will start by understanding the basics of the brain when it undergoes a traumatic event and then you write a narrative regarding the impacts of the trauma. We assess progress by conducting weekly and monthly questionnaires (PCL) to track.
I’ve been working with couples for 3 years, with an emphasis on Emotionally-focused therapy (EFT). EFT is an attachment based therapy that conceptualizes the negative, rigid interaction patterns that lead to distress in relationships in terms of emotional disconnection and insecure attachment. In a typical couples session, I start by working with the couple on identifying stressors in the relationship and a collective goal for the treatment.
DBT is a skills based therapy that focuses on four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. It helps clients gain insight and skills on how to manage areas of their lives that are impacted by one or many of these categories.
