Feitima Washington
Hi, I’m Feitima Washington, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who believes that mental health care should feel collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to you—not one-size-fits-all. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, mood disorders, and sleep difficulties. My approach combines thoughtful medication management with education, listening, and ongoing support. I take the time to understand not only your symptoms, but also how they are affecting your relationships, work, school, and everyday life.
I’m Feitima Washington, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of Journey to Healthy Living.
Whether you’re seeking care for the first time or looking for a treatment plan that better fits where you are today, my goal is to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where you feel heard and respected. Together, we’ll explore your concerns, discuss your options, and develop a treatment plan that aligns with your individual needs and goals. You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. I’m here to help you take the next step toward feeling more balanced, supported, and like yourself again.
First session
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and understand what you’re experiencing beyond just a diagnosis or list of symptoms. We’ll talk about what brought you to care, your current concerns, your mental and medical health history, previous treatments or medications, and how things have been affecting your everyday life. I’ll also ask about your goals—what you would like to feel, think, or function differently in your day-to-day life. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to share what’s important to you and ask questions along the way. Together, we’ll discuss your treatment options and create a plan that is individualized to your needs and goals. If medication is appropriate, I’ll explain the options, including potential benefits, side effects, and what to expect, so you can make informed decisions about your care. You don’t need to have everything figured out before our first appointment. My goal is to provide a comfortable, judgment-free space where you feel heard and supported, and to make sure you leave with a clearer understanding of your next steps.
Strengths
I bring a warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative approach to psychiatric care. I believe that feeling genuinely heard is an important part of effective treatment, and I take the time to understand you as a whole person—not just a diagnosis or a list of symptoms. One of my greatest strengths is creating a comfortable space where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing without feeling judged. I combine clinical knowledge with compassion, education, and practical solutions, so you can better understand what’s happening and feel more confident in your treatment decisions. I also believe medication management should be a conversation, not simply a prescription. We’ll consider your symptoms, concerns, preferences, lifestyle, and goals when developing your treatment plan. I’ll take the time to explain your options and answer your questions so you can be an active participant in your care. Whether you’re navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood changes, sleep concerns, or simply feeling like something isn’t quite right, my goal is to meet you where you are, help you understand what you’re experiencing, and work with you toward meaningful, sustainable improvement.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to better understand what they’re experiencing and take steps toward feeling better. You may be struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma-related concerns, mood changes, difficulty focusing, sleep problems, or simply feel like you haven’t quite been yourself lately. Maybe you feel overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, frustrated, or unsure of where to start. Perhaps you’ve tried different approaches before and are looking for something that better fits your needs and your life. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out, and you don’t have to know exactly what you need. I enjoy working with clients who are open to collaboration, asking questions, and being involved in their care. Together, we’ll work to better understand what’s going on, identify realistic goals, and develop a treatment approach that feels manageable and meaningful to you. My goal is to help you feel more supported, more confident in your care, and better equipped to move forward.
Treatment methods
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation to help you understand what you’re experiencing and why certain symptoms or patterns may be showing up in your life. I believe you deserve to understand the “why” behind your treatment, not simply be given a diagnosis or prescription. During our sessions, we may talk about your symptoms, diagnosis, medications, coping strategies, sleep, stress, lifestyle factors, and other things that can affect your mental health. I’ll explain information in a clear, practical way and make space for your questions so you never feel like you have to navigate your treatment on your own. My goal is for you to leave sessions with a better understanding of yourself, your treatment options, and the tools you can use to support your mental well-being.
Compassion-Focused
I use a compassion-focused approach to create a safe, supportive space where you can talk openly about your challenges without fear of judgment. I understand that mental health struggles can sometimes lead to self-criticism, guilt, or feeling like you’re not doing enough. Together, we’ll work on understanding difficult emotions, responding to stress and setbacks with greater self-compassion, and recognizing the strengths you already have. My goal is to help you develop a healthier relationship with yourself, build confidence, and make meaningful progress toward the life and mental well-being you’re working toward.
Relational
I use a relational approach by creating a genuine, supportive, and trusting connection where you feel comfortable being yourself. I believe that feeling heard, respected, and understood is an important part of effective mental health care. Together, we may explore how your relationships, past experiences, and current life circumstances can influence your thoughts, emotions, and overall well-being. We’ll also look at patterns that may be affecting your relationships and work toward healthier communication, stronger boundaries, and more meaningful connections. My goal is to create a collaborative relationship where you feel safe sharing what you’re experiencing and supported as you work toward positive change.
