About me

Hello and welcome to Grow Therapy Counseling! I am Paula Porterfield-Izzo. I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor since 1994. Are you trying to become the best version of yourself? Are you struggling with challenges in life and/or difficulties in a relationship? Or, are you struggling with grief, low self esteem, depression or anxiety? You are not meant to work it all out on your own, or carry all that weight on your shoulders. I am an experienced Licensed Counselor who provides a professional voice of guidance. I specialize in, and enjoy, helping individuals, to navigate through the troubled waters of life. I have successfully helped people to walk through devastating loss and grief. I provide solution-oriented therapy. I teach relaxation and mindfulness exercises to people experiencing anxiety and cognitive behavioral techniques to people experiencing depression. For persons experiencing trauma, we will work together, giving a nod to the past, learning how it is impacting the present. My practice is open to all regardless of religious affiliation, race, ethnicity or disability. I incorporate faith-based Christian counseling into the counseling experience, to those who are seeking this.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

You will have first spoken with me briefly, then filled out intake paperwork prior to our first appointment. When we first meet, we will discern your goals, and together we will come up with a treatment plan. Your therapy will be individualized, based upon your personal strengths and needs. I will assist you in drawing from your strengths, in order to achieve your Life goals.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My areas of expertise are in improving relationships, couples counseling, depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, military family issues, trauma resolution, family conflict, stress and low self esteem.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I counsel adults who are seeking counseling for depression, anxiety, low self esteem, grief, or conflict resolution. I assist people who are struggling with difficulties in relationships, at work, in their families, amongst friends or in their marriage. I will spend time getting to know you and then we will work together to create positive changes. I help individuals to identify and draw from heir personal strengths and to discern the internal issues they would like to change, Most people engage in some degree of negative self talk. For those experiencing depression, will identify patterns of behavior and any negative self-talk that we need to change. For individuals experiencing anxiety, we will help you to be more mindful of your body and learn to calm the physiological processes that create anxiety. For persons dealing with grief, I will walk with you, honoring and getting to know your loved one. All people who miss their loved ones, will feel a natural sadness. We will honor these feelings and recognize that they can and will dissipate with time. Most people who have loss, will also feel a degree of guilt. We will process this also. We will identify those parts of grief that are particularly difficult.

I absolutely love Ms Paula! She is the most warm, honest, direct and inquisitive counselor I’ve had the chance to talk to. She has helped me see things that I normally wouldn’t think of in my relationship and friendships. She has helped me find the tools to build a better me and allowed me to step away from negative and into the positive. Her smile and kind disposition makes it very easy to open up and find proper healing that works for me.
