New to Grow
I'm a licensed therapist with over 20 years experience in mental health. I specialize in helping adults and teens manage their symptoms of ADHD and anxiety, supporting women on their journeys toward personal fulfillment, and helping parents strengthen family cohesion through improved relationships in the home. My work typically integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, through which I follow my clients cues and needs to guide them toward uncovering their inner strengths and potential, while also teaching practical and creative skills to help them manage their emotions and improve daily functioning. I believe that laughter can provide just as much therapeutic benefit as tears and welcome them both in our sessions. My focus is on fostering heartfelt connection with my clients to create a safe environment for them to work through their struggles and find ways to release their burdens and fully realize their vast capabilities.
We will explore what you hope to gain from therapy and how my style can support you to ensure we are a good fit. Together we will explore the areas of your life you are hoping to improve so we can create goals to track your progress on your mental health journey. My intention for the first session is to help you feel comfortable and heard so that we can build a strong foundation to move forward and help you find some relief quickly. Throughout our time together I will listen, ask questions, sometimes teach, and always support and guide you to find the answers you seek. This is definitely a joint effort, so I invite you to reflect and ask questions about our work together, as transparency and authenticity are important to our process. If you are ready to take the next step toward enhanced self-awareness and are committed to getting "unstuck," I invite you to make an intake appointment today.
I have 20+ years experience working in mental health and have helped many people discover the strength that lies within them. I have worked with adults, women navigating change, families, teens, and children. I have managed and supervised behavioral programs for children/teens and their families in order for them to avoid psychiatric hospitalization or out-of-home placement. Through this work, the families learned about communication, self-regulation skills, behavioral principles, and how to work together to increase harmony in the home. I have conducted trainings on using behavioral techniques in different settings (in-home, residential programs, schools, and in the community). I have also worked in managed health care to link people to community resources and learn how to navigate tricky systems to get their mental health needs met. My approach is typically a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (which focuses on skill building and changing problematic behavioral patterns) with Person-Centered Therapy (which focuses on empowerment and self-actualization). A few of my core values are authenticity, connection, humor, inner harmony, and growth. In every interaction I strive to generate positive energy and warmth to ensure others know they are seen and heard. This has helped my clients feel safe and supported so they can engage in powerful work. I am open-minded, value learning from others, and actively embrace Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Women, men, or teens who feel stuck and are committed to looking within themselves to find a way forward. Anyone hoping to manage symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, or depression and wanting to find real tools to help them in their daily lives. Adults looking for parenting support while juggling their busy lives. Women navigating life's transitions, hoping to find their superhero within.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I am a strong believer that each individual has an inner strength and power that can be unlocked through authentic connection and empathetic understanding. Through exploring a client's unique stories, experiences and needs, I help support them in discovering their courage and their voice. Through this method, I guide clients toward the experience of releasing their emotional burdens and building confidence in their abilities to navigate challenges, while promoting ongoing self-awareness and personal growth. Depending on the client's need/preference, I may use this style alone or to compliment a more structured approach, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that focuses on skill-building, to offer practical tools for improved functioning.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Many clients benefit from a more structured, goal-oriented approach that focuses on their current challenges, without focusing much on the past. This action-oriented style helps the client identify how their thoughts, behaviors and emotions all work together and then build strategies and skills to counteract problematic patterns in their life. I use these techniques to help clients experience relief from troublesome behaviors and/or thoughts that are interfering in their daily functioning. CBT works well to address anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, and parenting struggles by helping clients to develop more effective emotional regulation and communication skills as well as helpful ways to cope with loss or stress. When using this style I typically give some "homework" at each session as a way for clients to practice the skills they learn which helps improve the therapeutic benefit. This approach readily compliments other styles as it provides accessible tools growth.
