Welcome, I am Heather Agid, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the state of Connecticut. I have over 7 years of experience across various mental health settings with a wide variety of populations and disorders, working as a member of management (clinical director) as well as a direct clinical staff. I have been a clinical outpatient therapist for the past 3 years and love it! I am dedicated to proving informative, impactful and inspirational clinical therapy services to my clients, taking pride in the work my clients and I do together.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our initial session, you can expect various questions I may ask to get to know you and your goals for therapy. Since therapy is a collaborative process, it’s important to me that you’re included in your treatment planning and that your wants and needs for therapy are priority. My approach is casual, friendly and low pressure for those who may be anxious to start therapy for the first time. You can tell me as much or as little as you’re comfortable with - therapy should be comfortable inviting, not punitive and intimidating. I’m happy you’re here and already proud of you for making this decision!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, I have learned several important aspects for supporting others including keeping an open mind, leading with empathy, ensuring comprehension and keeping it real. My goal is to help you feel equipped and confident in your abilities to manage your symptoms after you meet with me, each and every time.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Do you ever get that dread feeling when you wake up in the morning and don’t want to get out of bed? Or do you find yourself bouncing your leg up and down as you sit, clenching your jaw and tensing your muscles throughout the day? You might even experience difficulties sleeping due to nightmares and racing thoughts. If you can relate to this, I can help - you don’t have to do this alone. I’m passionate in treating symptoms that make daily life more difficult, to help my clients enter into a life they love and feel excited about.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

When working with parents, children or both parents and children together, I always consider attachment frameworks to inform treatment. I have a background in foster care reunification, as well as independent research in attachment between children and biological parents. In the past I have created an activity workbook for biological parents to use with their children in foster care during their supervised visits to strengthen their bonds. I understand how important a secure attachment is to harvesting healthy relationships and I take pride in helping families to improve in this area.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize and teach CBT techniques in many of my sessions to help clients develop healthy and realistic thinking patterns, which has shown to reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms. I also use specialized CBT techniques for those experiencing symptoms of OCD to help them overcome their compulsory behaviors.

Couples Counseling

Couples or marriage counseling is an art, one that requires delicate care to provide effectively. I take a direct yet empathetic approach to helping couples improve their communication skills and resolve conflicts within the relationship. Whether it is one large source of conflict or a multitude of issues, I help couples learn how to problem solve together rather than against one another.

Trauma Informed Care

I have extensive trainings in trauma informed care and am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Trauma impacts millions of people and cannot be ignored when treating someone in the therapeutic setting. Trauma can dictate how one feels, thinks and acts, which is why I always consider its importance when working with clients. Together we’ll explore your trauma triggers and responses as well as techniques to help you feel safer and more in control of your environment.
