Hi, my name is Christy Hopwood and I have been working in the mental health field since 1993. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and their families. I have been in private practice since 2008 where I see adults, couples, children, adolescents, and families. I help people with depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, bipolar, family issues, work place stress, substance abuse, trauma, and attachment issues. I use a person centered approach where I'm interested in all aspects of your life including your physical health, family health, social health, recreational health, work/school health, financial health, and spiritual health since I think all these components affect your mental health. We will talk about any stressors or trauma's you may have and we will work on changing negative thought patterns into rational thought by using cognitive therapy. I will give you worksheets and/or audio activities to help you build skills to lessen depression, anxiety, or any other difficulty you may be facing.
Clients will be able to process their thoughts, feelings, and concerns and get a possible fresh perspective on their situation with ways to mitigate their issues. We will develop a treatment plan to address your concerns and find ways to measure your progress based on your input.
I use person centered therapy, cognitive therapy, family systems therapy, and solution focused therapy. I use worksheets and interactive tools from Therapist Aid.
I work well with adults who have life struggles, who are juggling many responsibilities, and who have family of origin issues affecting their present life. I have worked with a lot of clients who are struggling at work or going through a divorce, caring for older parents while trying to maintain balance with their children and grandchildren. I have also worked with many adults who are struggling with their adult kids abusing substances. I have years of experience working in residential facilities for teenage boys and girls and young boys. I have worked in foster care agencies and I worked 16 years in families homes and at schools with at risk kids. I have worked with mentally ill adult clients in a crisis unit and in a shelter for domestic violence victims.
