My name is Charles Orwig, and I believe that the foundation of effective therapy lies in the relationship between the client and the therapist. Building a safe, supportive, and trusting connection is at the heart of my work. My priority is to ensure every person I work with feels truly heard, valued, and supported—whether we meet for a single session or for an extended journey together. Many people come to therapy with a deep sense that something isn’t quite right but struggle to pinpoint exactly what that is. My role is to help you uncover and understand these feelings, guiding you toward clarity and healing. I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating feelings of inadequacy, processing unresolved traumas, or searching for a way to rewrite their personal narrative. Together, we will work to help you find freedom, empowerment, and the tools to create the life you envision. Your story matters, and therapy is a space where your voice, experiences, and needs take center stage. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to meet you exactly where you are on your journey. Let’s walk this path together and create meaningful change.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, my primary focus is on creating a welcoming and supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing at your own pace. We will begin by exploring what brought you to therapy and identifying the goals you hope to achieve. This session is an opportunity for me to get to know you—your experiences, challenges, and what matters most to you—so we can tailor our work to meet your unique needs. You can expect me to listen attentively, without judgment, and ask thoughtful questions to better understand your story. Together, we’ll start to identify patterns, challenges, and strengths that can guide our work moving forward. I’ll also take time to explain my therapeutic approach, answer any questions you may have, and outline what our sessions might look like in the future. This first session is about collaboration and connection. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the steps we’ll take together on your journey toward healing and growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, my strengths lie in creating a compassionate and supportive environment where clients feel heard and valued. I excel in active listening and empathy, ensuring that each person I work with feels understood and validated. My approach is deeply client-centered, tailoring therapy to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual. I prioritize building strong, trusting relationships, as I believe this connection is the foundation for meaningful therapeutic work. I specialize in helping clients navigate feelings of inadequacy, heal unresolved trauma, and reframe their personal narratives to foster a sense of empowerment and freedom. My ability to guide clients through these transformative processes reflects my dedication to fostering growth and resilience. I communicate with clarity and compassion, making therapy approachable and collaborative, whether for a single session or a long-term journey. Ultimately, my goal is to support each client in uncovering their strengths, rewriting their stories, and achieving lasting change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adults who are feeling trapped in a cycle of anxiety, self-doubt, and lack of purpose. These adults could also be feeling “blah” and they can’t put their finger on why; and they are you ready to release the relentless cycle of negative self-perception that leads to shame and worthlessness. Together, we take to take a journey with me, and we can work together to build the life you want to live. I work with the client to free themselves from the chains of the past, and work to finally put themselves first.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have primarily used CBT throughout my 4 years of experience. I have primarily worked with Veterans utilizing CBT to treat insomnia, anxiety, depression, and anger.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

This modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Trauma. Typically, this treatment lasts approximately 12-14 sessions. This can be provided virtually.

EMDR

Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is considered the "gold standard" for trauma treatment; however, can be used for more than just trauma. I have undergone this therapy; as well as provided this therapy for grief, anxiety, depression, infidelity (specifically with the betrayed spouse), trauma, phobias, and more. This therapy can be done in-person or virtually. Typically, treatment using this approach starts with a relational approach, followed by education of coping skills and how EMDR processing works. There is no set limit to treatment but most clients start to feel better after a couple visits.

Couples Counseling

Couples attend counseling for a variety of issues; however, one common theme that is consistent with each and every couple is communication, and I believe communication should be addressed first. A focus on communication will last anywhere from 3-6 sessions, all the while focusing on the couple's key issues that bring them to therapy. From there, I focus on rebuilding intimacy using a variety of tools to help the couple understand what is needed from each of the partners. For the couples that wish to continue their healing journey, I utilize the relational approach to understand the couple in a holistic manner and learn how their past experiences are exacerbating conflict.
