As a therapist, I strive to create and maintain a safe, judgment-free environment for my clients to be vulnerable and explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences–good and bad. I utilize a collaborative approach to raise awareness, discuss deeper issues, and support clients in overcoming barriers so they can live fulfilling lives. I understand that, at times, this process can be intimidating, and it takes a lot of courage to acknowledge you might need help. So, I want to emphasize that if you choose to work with me, I will be there to lend an empowering, helping hand.
The first session is dedicated for both of us to get to know each other, this includes my understanding of your presenting concerns, gathering your history, previous experience with therapy (what has worked, and what hasn't worked). Discuss your interests, current strengths, and your goals. It is important for me to answer any questions about my professional experience. This is to ensure that you are comfortable and feel like we are a good match for therapy.
My greatest strengths as a therapist are empathy, compassion, and excellent listening skills. I can easily build strong rapport with people and discuss sensitive issues/concerns with kindness and care.
I enjoy working with adults who have insight into their problems and are seeking to deepen their understanding of triggers, dysfunctional behavioral patterns, and intergenerational cycles of trauma. I can help clients build insight, as well as support clients to process past trauma (s) and, implement healthy coping skills, improve communication, and challenge negative thoughts and feelings to improve quality of life.
I have over 10 years of experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients presenting with several psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorder. In sessions, CBT interventions help identify/recognize an individual's cognitive distortions that are creating problems then reevaluate and challenge automatic negative cognitions with evidence in reality.
In sessions I utilize Humanistic therapy to build strong rapport with clients through being genuine, empathic, and providing reflective listening and positive regard. Humanistic approach focuses on an individuals free will, human potential, and self discovery. Humanistic approach to therapy allows individuals to become more self-aware and accepting of themselves.
I have several years of experience utilize Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). In sessions, DBT interventions help with promoting mindfulness/being present, increasing distress tolerance, improving interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation.
I completed EMDR training in 2022, and I am in the process of becoming a certified EMDR clinician. In session, EMDR works by facilitating the reprocessing of traumatic/distressful memories through bilateral stimulation. EMDR process help promote adaptive beliefs and emotions.
I have over 10 years of motivational interviewing experience. MI is a collaborative process to support enhance a client's motivation for change. MI is utilized to understand the client's perspectives, and deepen client's own understanding of experiences to evoke change.
