Hello! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan with 16 years of experience. I have worked extensively with young and middle-aged adults on concerns ranging from depression, anxiety, substance abuse and PTSD/trauma to eating disorders, relationship challenges and academic & career transition issues. If you choose to work with me, you can expect a safe and non-judgmental space to share your concerns with a supportive, active listener. Together we can work collaboratively towards concrete solutions that address your individual needs. I am passionate about the mind-body-spirit connection in both my professional and personal life. I am an avid runner and former college athlete, practice regular meditation for my own stress management and personal growth, and spend lots of time in nature and the outdoors with my family (husband and two boys aged 7 and 11) in all seasons kayaking, camping, hiking, and skiing/snowboarding.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After some brief introductions, our first session will be an opportunity for you to share your concerns and what is and what is not working in terms of how you are coping with your challenges. My goal for every client is by the end of the first session we will have identified goals together that you want to work towards in counseling so that you can feel that you have a clear path forward in our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I strive to be a guide on the path of each client. I think of myself as a partner in your work, rather than an expert or person who tells clients what to do or how to make changes. I believe each client has the right answers for themselves within and it is my job (and honor) to walk beside them as they work with me in their own process of self-discovery.

My treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I can help you develop your own mindfulness practice for greater inner clarity in decision-making, reduced anxiety & stress, improved relationships, personal growth, among many other benefits.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our thoughts often drive our negative emotions which then fuel greater thought distortions which in turn amplify anxiety, depression, and other unpleasant mental states. In conjunction with mindfulness practice, I can help you develop a process for identifying, challenging and reframing root cause thinking errors which can then restore mental health and wellness.

Mind-body approach

I've trained in Hakomi Somatic Psychotherapy, a mindfulness and body-awareness technique for healing trauma, family relationships and numerous other challenges. Often times there is emotional information stored within a physical feeling or sensation within the body that I can help you access and become more aware of. Symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma often accumulates in our bodies and nervous systems. Using a Mind-Body/Somatic approach can help you move through feelings of "flight, fight, or freeze" and more effectively regulate your nervous system for better daily functioning.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

If you are looking for skills and tools to learn new or more effective ways of thinking, interacting, communicating with others, or relating to yourself, I can help you discover resources that focus on positive outcomes and can be readily implemented.

Interpersonal

If a client is in a life transition, such as changing or losing employment, having a child or working towards building a family or having lost a loved one, I often utilize interpersonal psychotherapeutic work to help the client learn and practice new communication strategies to reduced conflict and relationship tension to more effectively navigate these challenging life transitional times.
