What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can anticipate a friendly, encouraging, and nonjudgmental setting during their first psychotherapy session with me, where they are encouraged to discuss their reasons for seeking treatment. The purpose of this first meeting is to learn about their concerns, medical history, and treatment objectives. I investigate what has and hasn't worked for them in the past, listen intently, and pose meaningful questions. We'll also talk about any symptoms they might be having, how these problems are impacting their day-to-day activities, and what they want to get out of therapy. Effective treatment requires a trusting therapeutic relationship, which is facilitated by this cooperative approach. I will also address any queries or worries clients may have regarding the process, give an outline of how therapy operates, and describe confidentiality. Together, we will start outlining a customized treatment plan, defining clear objectives and the methods by which we can achieve them. My goal is for clients to feel heard, understood, and optimistic about the future when they leave the first session. Finding the right therapeutic fit is essential to successful results, so this session also gives clients a chance to see if they feel comfortable working with me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to express themselves openly. I recognize that seeking therapy can be a vulnerable experience, and I prioritize building trust and fostering a therapeutic relationship based on empathy, respect, and understanding. By truly listening to my clients and validating their experiences, I help them feel heard and valued, which is essential for meaningful progress in therapy. Another key strength is my extensive experience and use of evidence-based practices. With over 23 years of experience treating depression, anxiety, and addiction in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I have developed a deep understanding of how to tailor therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each client. I utilize techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and relapse prevention strategies to provide effective, goal-oriented care. This flexible and individualized approach allows me to adapt interventions as clients evolve in their journey toward healing and growth. Lastly, I bring a strong sense of collaboration and empowerment to the therapeutic process. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives, and I work alongside them to help identify strengths, build coping skills, and develop strategies for lasting change. I encourage clients to take an active role in their treatment, fostering self-awareness and resilience. By providing guidance, support, and practical tools, I help clients navigate challenges while promoting personal growth and long-term well-being.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to serve individuals who are seeking compassionate, evidence-based therapy to address a wide range of mental health challenges. My extensive experience allows me to work effectively with clients facing conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction. I am particularly skilled at providing support for individuals navigating major life transitions, whether that involves coping with the changes of a new career, a relationship, or adjusting to parenting. Clients who are motivated to work collaboratively in therapy, engage in self-reflection, and are open to learning new coping strategies tend to thrive in my care. In addition, I specialize in working with individuals who have struggled with long-term mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and personality disorders. My ability to create individualized treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based practices helps clients manage their symptoms effectively and gain a deeper understanding of their mental health. I am passionate about supporting those who have faced complex mental health challenges, offering them the tools and resources necessary to improve their daily functioning, build resilience, and find greater stability in their lives. I offer a nonjudgmental space for partners to explore their concerns, improve communication, and work through issues related to intimacy, trust, and conflict resolution. My approach is equally effective for parents seeking guidance in managing their children’s behavioral or emotional issues. In all cases, my goal is to provide a supportive environment where clients feel understood and empowered to create positive, lasting changes in their lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Over 20 years of experience providing psychotherapy to patients both in inpatient psychiatric hospital settings and outpatient settings. My experience implementing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been extensive and profoundly impactful in treating depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. CBT is a versatile, evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors contributing to their mental health. In my practice, I employ CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and coping skills training to empower clients to manage their symptoms effectively. By fostering a collaborative therapeutic environment, I guide clients in developing practical strategies to challenge and reframe their thoughts, ultimately leading to healthier behaviors and improved emotional well-being.

Existential

My experience with existential psychotherapy has been extremely helpful in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders, spanning more than two decades of practice. Existential psychotherapy concentrates on the examination of the fundamental components of human existence, including mortality, freedom, responsibility, and finding meaning in life. I assist my clients in confronting and comprehending these existential concerns, thereby assisting them in discovering personal meaning and purpose amid their challenges. I help motivate clients to investigate their values, beliefs, and life's most profound inquiries by cultivating a profound, genuine therapeutic relationship. This method not only helps alleviate symptoms but also fosters significant personal development and a greater sense of satisfaction.

Psychodynamic

At times, I will treat depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders by implementing psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychodynamic psychotherapy explores the unconscious processes and past experiences that influence current emotions and behavior. I collaborate with clients to identify and comprehend the ingrained patterns, deep-seated fears, and unresolved conflicts that contribute to mental health challenges in my professional practice. I assist clients in gaining a deeper understanding of their inner selves, which in turn leads to emotional healing and increased self-awareness, by employing techniques such as free association, and transference exploration. This type of investigation not only mitigates symptoms but also encourages personal development and long-term transformation.
