A warm welcome to you! I've been a therapist for many years, have a master’s degree in social work from UC Berkeley, and draw upon a depth of life and work experience in our work together. You are the expert in you and I am your ally and resource. We team up and collaborate in meeting your goals and freeing you up to be the best version of yourself. Whether your goal is to figure out your career path, get your mood on an even-keel, tame your inner critic, or to move through your grief, I'm here for you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Throughout your therapy with me you can expect to grow in clarity, perspective, direction and confidence. You will take away skills and tools to help you thrive. I approach your therapy, and I'm not unique in this, as a collaborative undertaking co-created by the two of us. During this journey you may experience laughter, sweat and tears. And it will all be worth it (!).

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work with you to get to the heart of the matter, hopefully with heart, grace and skill. I have an ease and wealth of experience in a number of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral (CBT), psychodynamic, mindfulness, attachment, IFS and trauma-informed modalities. I customize my approach to you – your goals, your growth, your healing. I will meet you on your own ground and appreciate your unigue set of strengths, challenges and experiences while also embracing your/our common humanity. I. My secret sauce also includes humor. :)

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with young adults facing the choices of career, dating, life-partner and other "adulting" dilemnas. However, I welcome and love working with adults in all phases of the lifecycle, be it college students with roommate challenges or empty nesters adapting to the quiet of their homes. Whatever brings you through the door, I appreciate your courage, openheartedness and resourcefulness in asking for help. You're already on your way to resolution (even if it may not feel like it).

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

Attachment is hardwired in the human brain for survival since growing babies requires a strong bond with an adult caregiver to get their basic needs met - for food, shelter, comfort and security. That expression "no man is an island" is true. We need connection to thrive. When attachment needs are thrwarted, from babyhood and throughout our lifecycles, we can't grow into the fully-realized, loving people we'd like to be. Our physical and emotional selves suffer as a result. Since attachment is so key to our wellbeing, as a therapist I keep an out for struggles with attachment both while growing up and in daily life and am an ally and resource in helping you develop loving relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

What we say to ourselves matters and directly impact our wellbeing, our self-esteem, our choices and our actions. Our core beliefs about ourselves, others, and our world shape what we say to ourselves. Many of us have a lively inner critic driving us to say negative, pessimistic and demeaning things towards ourselves. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is very helpful and healing in questioning and reshaping our distressing inner dialogue. It helps us see reality as it is, free from distortion and our brain's "negativity bias."

Compassion Focused

Therapy provides a safe space to be openhearted about your strengths and struggles. Healing and positive wellbeing begins and ends with compassion, most of all towards towards yourself and towards your loved ones. I as a therapist offer and very much value compassion and wholeheartedness. I also compassionately recognize and work with what gets in the way of our compassion.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I've have had much training and practice in internal family systems. It is a very powerful modality in working with trauma and how trauma impacts our hearts, our attachment styles, our bodily responses and emotions, our brains, and our very ways of moving through the world. IFS acknowledges that we all have different parts to ourselves which make us complex and human. When we say, "I feel torn up inside" we are referring to different parts of ourselves that are in conflict. IFS helps us to develop compassion towards our many parts and to understand, respect and appreciate their function within our psyche. IFS allows us to see how our parts came to be and how they may be burdened by past trauma and pain. It offers a path towards freeing our parts from the burdens they carry and a path towards greater inner peace.

Mind-body approach

The mind and body hold our emotional struggles and offer up opportunities for healing and release. As a therapist I work with you as a whole person, mind, body and spirit.
