First session
At your first appointment, we’ll spend time talking through what’s been going on and getting a better sense of your overall situation. I’ll ask about your current concerns, your mental health and medical history, and any treatments or supports you’ve tried before. This is a relaxed, open conversation—there’s no pressure to have all the answers, and you can share at whatever pace feels right for you. As part of the process, I’ll also ask some routine safety questions about mood, stress, and any thoughts of self-harm. These are standard for everyone and help me make sure your care is thoughtful and appropriate. Toward the end of the visit, we’ll go over impressions or possible diagnoses if relevant, and talk through a treatment plan that fits your goals. This might include therapy, medication, or other supportive options. My aim is for you to leave feeling informed, supported, and clear about what comes next.
Strengths
I always place my patients in the driver seat of any patient-provider situation. I always stress the importance of their participation and informed consent to the management and care provided. I will always strive to provide the best evidence-based management to the health issues at hand. As a provider, I would like my patient to express and realize they are being listened to, and that their mental health concerns prioritized and dealt with not only with medication but with other non-medication management treatment modalities as well. I want my patients to look forward into coming back knowing that the subsequent sessions will lead more to their eventual healing and resolution of mental health concerns.
Ideal clients
Generally accepting clients of all ages. I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and I work with patients across the lifespan—from children and teens to adults and older adults. My role is to help assess what’s going on, provide support, and, if needed, use therapy approaches and medications to help client feel and function better.” My clients have psychiatric ailments varying from depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD, ADHD, dementia psychosis, parkinson's psychosis, insomnia, SUD, etc.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing (MI) is a counseling style that helps patients find their own reasons to change behaviors like smoking, drinking, or drug use. Instead of telling them what to do, you ask open-ended questions, listen closely, and reflect their thoughts to bring out their motivation. The goal is to reduce resistance and build readiness for change by exploring both the pros and cons of their behavior. When patients start expressing their own desire or reasons to change, you then help them take small, realistic steps forward.
Psychoeducation
In my clinical practice, I use psychoeducation as a core part of treatment by helping patients better understand what they’re experiencing and why. I take time to explain their symptoms, how different factors like brain chemistry, stress, and life experiences can contribute, and how various treatments can help address those underlying processes. I’ve found that when patients understand their condition in a clear and relatable way, it reduces fear and confusion and helps them feel more in control of their situation. Rather than simply giving information, I approach psychoeducation as an ongoing, collaborative process that connects directly to what the patient is going through, allowing them to recognize patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This often leads to greater engagement in treatment, improved adherence to medications or therapy, and a stronger sense of empowerment. Over time, it also helps patients develop practical coping strategies and recognize early warning signs, which supports long-term stability and relapse prevention. Ultimately, I see psychoeducation as an essential tool for building insight, strengthening the therapeutic relationship, and helping patients take an active role in managing their mental health.
