Hi There! My name is ieesha (yes I purposely put a lowercase i because it gets confused with a lowercase (l) L all the time) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who has been in the field for 19 years. I have served multiple populations ranging from infants/children up to the elderly, and in settings including numerous community mental health agencies, hospitals, and a school district. I have worked in the role of a life coach, program director of an employment program and an anti-bullying agency, medical social worker/discharge planner, therapist, and school social worker.
In our first session, we will introduce ourselves, discuss what led you to therapy and the help/support you are seeking from therapy. I will discuss what type of therapist I wish to be for you and what I hope you gain from our therapeutic relationship. This initial session will allow us to break the ice and begin to build rapport. This will also allow me, as the therapist, to work with you on establishing goals and develp a plan towards achieving success along your mental health journey.
In my versatile career as a social worker, my goal is always to provide services from a non-judgmental, supportive, insightful, and strength-based perspective. I received a limited amount of these types of supports as I navigated through the struggles, challenges and changes in my life from childhood to adulthood. For that reason, I vowed that I would obtain the education and experiences needed to help others throughout their life's journey. I take each skill and tool that I've learned from past and current roles as a social worker and appropriately apply them to the person I am helping.
I love what I do and helping others that's why I've been working in multiple roles simultaneously as a discharge planner (hospital), school social worker and therapist for almost a decade now. My mental health experience is broad due to currently working with psychiatric/baker act patients, students (specifically teen parents) and outpatient mental health (depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, substance, life, etc.) clients that I provide support and resources to.
I have taken courses in my graduate program and post-graduate trainings though my employers to enhance my knowledge in CBT therapy. In my different roles as a social worker and therapist over the years, I've used CBT therapy to treat individuals in the school, hospital and community settings. During the sessions, the challenging issues, thoughts and feelings, and actions are discussed. We also review and implement ways to improve the situations in a productive and healthy manner to produce positive change/growth. This is a method that I use personally and professionally that has benefited my past clients. I also plan to use this therapeutic modality to help and support my future clients make rewarding changes in their lives.
i have used this strength-based method to assist students and families in the school setting. Each client discusses traumas, challenges and hardships that they have overcome related to academics, housing, family dynamics, friendship/relationships and self esteem/confidence. I also use this method of practice when working with teen parent students as they navigate through high school and parenthood. My firm belief in life is that no matter how hard it gets; it could be worse and there is a way to make a bad situation better. I am eager and looking forward to helping my clients make their bad situations better!
I have worked with children and families since entering the field of social work 19 years ago. I conduct family sessions in the hospital and school settings to assist families with communication, addressing concerns/issues, being a support, and learning positive strategies to improve situations. It is important to be aware and sensitive to what another person is going through. This allows understanding, support and the ability to address difficult situations. In family sessions, these are the key focuses and each family member is responsible for being the best version of themselves in the family.
In my current roles as a therapist, medical social worker, and school social worker (teen parent specialized area) I regularly use psychoeducation to treat my clients, patients, and families. I inform them of what therapy is and the process of treatment/services. We identify the cause of concern, on-going issues and establish goals including methods/strategies to improve the situations. During sessions, I provide education, accountability tasks (to-dos) and follow-up/checkins. This method of practice is to ensure that the purpose for therapy is addressed and can be successfully controlled/managed in and out of therapy (with or without a therapist).
In my role as a social worker providing services for families for 19 years and teen parent students in the school system for 6 years, I've provided therapy to address relationship challenges, family concerns included blended families, self esteem/confidence issues and timing dilemmas/uncertainties (long term vs short term and dating vs marriage). During the couple sessions, each individual is able to express thought/feelings, needs, expectations and relationship deal breakers to the other individual. Couple and personal/self activities are also provided to be completed outside of session. The activities/to-dos are discussed during the next couple session. Any relationship is a beautiful thing! If it's meant for you to be by yourself or with someone else our (you and I) goal is to discover that and work towards it.
