Hello, my name is Laura Madu. I am a Board Certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I see patients across the lifespan. I use evidence-based practices in understanding the complexities of the human mind. Through therapy, empathy and compassion, create judgment-free zones to help manage individuals with various mental health disorders. I hold a doctoral degree in psychiatry and mental health nursing from the University of Tennessee, and a Master's degree as a family nurse practitioner from Howard University.
I believe quality mental health treatment starts with feeling supported, accepted and heard. I am therefore intentional about providing a compassionate, safe and judgment-free space. This means appreciating what is important to a person’s experience of mental illness and healing.
I have a particular interest in integrative and nutritional psychiatry as well as cultural psychiatry. I understand the impact of environmental factors on mental health and routinely discuss nonpharmacologic treatments with patients in addition to medication.
I believe a therapeutic partnership respects patients’ values, strengths and expertise in their own experiences. In turn, I offer my professional knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices to give patients the tools with which to achieve the goals that are most meaningful to them. As part of fostering partnership, I emphasize transparency, keeping patients informed about diagnosis, medications and treatment options.
Laura Madu offers therapy covered by Buckeye Health Plan, Buckeye Health Plan (Managed Medicaid), CareSource, Medicaid - Buckeye Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Ohio.
