Rebecca Ward
I am a trauma educator, licensed therapist, healer, author, speaker, and executive coach. My purpose is to help people transform their own trauma wounds into personal growth and resilience and reconnect with the truest version of themselves—what I call our Original Blueprint®. I live in the SF Bay Area and enjoy taking road trips around Northern California. I love animals of all kinds, love being in nature, and love spending time with my life partner, family, and friends. One unusual thing about me is that I am also a voice actor.
First session
We typically review your intake form, which you send me before we meet. As we review your responses, we'll dig deeper and do light interventions that start your healing process. You'll feel clearer about the direction we'll be going during your first session. I welcome your questions and any concerns you have so that you can feel at ease with this journey. You might even walk away after the session with an "ah-ha!" moment!
Strengths
What I've been told many times is that I am highly skilled at holding space. I help people feel safe, seen, and heard. I also know that I am an engaged therapist, which means that I see myself as a partner in your healing. You will know what I think, and you are empowered to accept or reject my assertions. You are the expert on you, while I continue to learn more and more about you as we go. Because my background as a therapist includes extensive training in somatics, I will observe what your nervous system is telling me, too. That approach seems to be very powerful for clients because much of what the body tells us is subconscious. I help clients get in touch with their somatic intelligence so that they have more control over how they think, feel, and act. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in journalism, I hold two master’s degrees in business and clinical mental health from George Washington University and Marymount University, respectively. As a licensed therapist in California and an ICF-Certified Professional Coach, I hold a multitude of trauma-informed certifications, including Somatic Experiencing. I am also a freelance writer for Psychology Today. My memberships include the International Coaching Federation and the CA Marriage and Family Therapists Association.
Ideal clients
Clients who are open-minded and committed to their healing process make the most progress. If you are willing and able to stay curious, you'll get the best results from therapy! Clarity about your goals and openness and honesty about your concerns will make a huge difference. I can only be as effective as what my clients are willing to disclose to me.
Treatment methods
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I bring in parts work when either the client requests it or I suggest it when I believe it might be useful. It’s a powerful approach for some clients, especially when they feel stuck.
Somatic
I’m a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, which is a 3-year training plus assisting for years thereafter at the student trainings to master the methodology. It’s an approach that is customized for each person and a powerful way to heal childhood and intergenerational trauma. The feedback from my clients seems to consistently be that the results are “life changing.”
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I have tools in the mindfulness space that help my clients learn to self-regulate, which allows them to decrease anxiety and stay present more often.
