Life is busy, and we often put off taking care of ourselves. Thank you for making your mental health a priority! I am Amanda Culp-Roche, a dual-board certified nurse practitioner (family practice and psychiatric mental health), licensed in North Carolina and Kentucky. I received my Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Kentucky. I have over 17 years of medication management experience treating mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. I love helping individuals reach and maintain their highest quality of life, satisfaction, function, and contentment.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session will be focused on building a partnership. I want to hear your story- what you are able/willing to share with me. I need to know what treatments have been tried and what worked or did not work and if there are other factors that need to be considered before prescribing a treatment such as medical conditions and medications. I want to know what you expect from me as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and I will share what I expect from our working relationship. Once we establish the foundation, we will start to build a treatment plan together that is acceptable to your goals and current life circumstances.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I view each person as a unique individual who has many different factors that contribute to their overall wellness. I actively listen to individuals to learn about their specific needs, goals, and abilities. I view myself as a member of an individual’s mental health team and will work with others to ensure the best results for the individual. For the last 17 years, I have used this wholistic, team-based approach to guide individuals towards successful mental health treatment, physical health, and overall wellness. I continue to learn and grow as a provider, so I can offer the best possible options to individuals seeking care. I know medications are not the only answer, and I provide other options for wellness including lifestyle suggestions and supplements based on the best available information.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Individuals who want and/or need a medication provider who listens with empathy and is aware of how mental health can impact decisions, relationships, and participation in life will be well-served with me as their psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Active participation is important to reaching mental health treatment goals, and I will encourage individuals to learn about their diagnosis, seek out information about treatment options, and ask questions! I am comfortable treating individuals with many types of depression, anxiety, substance misuse, ADHD, chronic illness, PTSD, grief, and bipolar disorders with medication and suggestions for alternative therapies, and I urge individuals to engage in supportive counseling and/or therapy.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

Using motivational interviewing, I will work with you to determine your treatment goals and help you identify and overcome barriers to your goals. I will treat you with empathy, provide alternative perspectives, accept resistance to change, and empower you to meet your goals.

Psychoeducation

I will provide information about diagnoses, symptoms, and potential treatment. I will also provide information on alternative treatments, including light therapy, nutrition, sleep, and activity. Once you have this information, you and I can decide how to move forward toward your treatment goals.

My first appointment went exceptionally well. Amanda is super friendly and took a lot of time to fully understand my struggles. She collaborated with me to come up with a plan. I felt very comfortable talking with her, and I felt she listened with care for my wellbeing. She is very easygoing and answered all of my questions. I’m hopeful to continue working with her in the future.

I was nervous for my first session, but Amanda made me feel comfortable and relaxed very quickly. She was very knowledgeable on everything and very thorough. She didn't push me towards any decisions, she was patient, and helped educate me, so that I can make my own choices based on facts provided. I would highly recommend her, and I'm excited for my next appointment!
