Life is busy, and we often put off taking care of ourselves. Thank you for making your mental health a priority! I am Amanda Culp-Roche, a dual-board certified nurse practitioner (family practice and psychiatric mental health), licensed in North Carolina and Kentucky. I received my Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Kentucky. I have over 15 years of medication management experience treating mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders. I love helping individuals reach and maintain their highest quality of life, satisfaction, function, and contentment.
The first session will be focused on building a partnership. I want to hear your story- what you are able/willing to share with me. I need to know what treatments have been tried and what worked or did not work and if there are other factors that need to be considered before prescribing a treatment such as medical conditions and medications. I want to know what you expect from me as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and I will share what I expect from our working relationship. Once we establish the foundation, we will start to build a treatment plan together that is acceptable to your goals and current life circumstances.
I view each person as a unique individual who has many different factors that contribute to their overall wellness. I actively listen to individuals to learn about their specific needs, goals, and abilities. I view myself as a member of an individual’s mental health team and will work with others to ensure the best results for the individual. For the last 14 years, I have used this wholistic, team-based approach to guide individuals towards successful mental health treatment and overall wellness. I continue to learn and grow as a provider so I can offer the best possible options to individuals seeking care.
Individuals who want and/or need a medication provider who listens with empathy and is aware of how mental health can impact decisions, relationships, and participation in life will be well-served with me as their psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Active participation is important to reaching mental health treatment goals, and I will encourage individuals to learn about their diagnosis, seek out information about treatment options, and ask questions! I am comfortable treating individuals with many types of depression, anxiety, substance misuse, ADHD, and bipolar disorders with medication, and I urge individuals to engage in supportive counseling and/or therapy.
I will guide you in determining what your goals for treatment are and help you identify and overcome barriers to your goals. I will treat you with empathy, provide alternative perspectives, accept resistance to change, and empower you to meet your goals.
I will provide information about diagnoses, symptoms, and potential treatment. Once you have this information, you and I can decide how to move forward toward your treatment goals.
