(she/her)
¡Hola a todos! Me llamo Donna, Mexicana a hueso colorado y soy bilingüe en Ingles y Español. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed professional counselor associate (supervised by Nanci Silver-Boice, M.Ed, M.A., LMFT-S, LPC-S.) I hold a masters in science in psychology with the specialty of marriage, individual, and family therapy. I am here to help you to the best of my ability and most of all, I'm open-minded about cultures, beliefs, sexual orientation, and walks of life. Fun facts about me: I am not an UwU girl but I do love the aesthetic and cute fashion! Also, my last name is Xu because my husband is Chinese-Canadian-American.
Typically a first session is meant for establishing rapport and seeing if we are a good fit for each other. If we are, then we go at the client's pace. We can get down to business or take some time and ease there.
Coming from a bicultural background (American-born with first generation Mexican parents) and also having lived abroad in Japan, I feel that I am able to understand some of the common challenges that come with assimilation and acculturation from both domestic and foreign perspectives.
I work well with clients who are solution focused, have gone through a grief experience or loss of any kind, and those who need help in their relationships. I am open minded and warm, and silly at times, and for clients who like that about me, we work very well together. My office space is a judgment-free zone. I work with grief, anxiety, depression, intergenerational and religious trauma, losses, life transitions, and relationship issues. I am currently not seeing couples through Grow Therapy.
