LP, 12 years of experience
My name is Aaron Farley, and I provide telehealth therapy to clients in Virginia. After completing my doctoral degree (PsyD) in 2010, I completed a 2 year fellowship in clinical neuropsychology. I have experience working with a wide variety of clients with numerous reasons for seeking therapy. I approach therapy from a collaborative perspective and work with the client to understand the unique strengths and challenges that have impacted the client's life. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help build a shared understanding of your life and goals for treatment. I am committed to providing a warm, respectful, and client-centered environment for treatment. Please do no hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need additional information.
In our initial session we will discuss what has brought you to therapy, what you've already tried to address the challenges you're experiencing, and collaboratively develop a treatment plan that emphasizes evidence-based interventions for reaching your goals. As sessions continue we will evaluate the progress of treatment and make adjustments as needed. Clients can expect to leave therapy sessions feeling heard and understood, have increased insight and awareness around the problem they are seeking help with, and motivated to implement practical strategies for addressing the underlying problem.
I pride myself in being warm, genuine, friendly, and down to earth. Research suggests that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of psychotherapy and provides an optimal environment for growth and development. I strive to connect with all of my clients regardless of similarities or differences and offer a supportive nonjudgmental environment that is purely client-centered.
I am committed to using scientifically validated treatments in my practice, commonly referred to as evidence-based treatment. Two of the most frequently used are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance/Commitment Therapy (ACT). With CBT, we will pay attention to the thoughts/behaviors that keep us 'stuck' and develop strategies to challenge and overcome them. With ACT, we will focus on getting out of our head and back into our lives by making choices toward our values and letting go of the internal experience that keeps us trapped. Other approaches are used when appropriate including Problem Solving Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.
I have specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment therapy and have applied these techniques to treatment of a number of psychological conditions including depression, anxiety, bereavement, substance misuse, health-behavior goals, and trauma.
I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression, insomnia, pain, and anxiety and have applied these techniques with a wide variety of patients of various backgrounds.

Aaron is amazing. In the short time that I have been seeing him he has already greatly impacted my life and helped me learn to push through my anxieties. I would highly recommend him to anyone trying to recover from trauma. He also had a very warm personality that makes it easy to talk to him.
