Dr. Carmen Majied
Welcome! I embrace the opportunity to explore possibly working together. ***Please note that I work exclusively with adult women and have intentionally created a practice centered on women’s emotional well-being, growth, unique experiences and therapeutic needs.*** One of my greatest passions is supporting people who want to release personal trauma, heal emotional injury, navigate their (internal and external) experience differently as well as ‘show up’ in the world as powerfully and uniquely expressive as they can imagine. I genuinely enjoy and believe in the art of conversation- whether existing in conversation with someone about how they are currently expressing themselves in the world or interacting with them about techniques that are conducive to them relinquishing past hurt- either way, the rich potential embedded in reciprocal conversation can be forward-moving. By establishing a strong, reliable, and consistent therapeutic alliance with my clients, I firmly believe that positive growth and evolution are attainable. The journey is worth the investment!
First session
When we connect for our first session, we’ll spend some time talking about you! We’ll explore what brings you to therapy, a little bit about your personal history as well as a few basic housekeeping items that I typically broach with new clients during the initial session. Feel free to think of the first session as a ‘meet and greet’… I’ll ask a few questions and I’ll hold plenty of space for you to ask any questions that you might have. The time spent is meant to be informative, reassuring as well as engaging. I look forward to it!
Strengths
I bring a great deal of education and formal clinical training to my sessions (which from my perspective is important and invaluable). At the same time, I’m someone who brings a wealth of wisdom and life experience to my conversations with clients as well. I’ve lived many wonderful moments and I’ve navigated my share of challenging ones as well. That delicate blend/balance of ‘doing life’ is what makes my approach to therapy so unique. I’m able to genuinely empathize and show up in a meaningful way… being able to do so facilitates trust, rapport, momentum and genuine interest.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is a woman between the ages of 18-60. This person might be navigating the college/university experience, managing perimenopause/menopause and/or they might be considering what life will entail as they continue to deal with emotional distress, grief/loss and/or significant life transitions. Additionally, my ideal client is someone who’s curious about exploring the interrelationship between their unique thoughts feelings and behaviors (and how those manifestations tie into personal triggers).
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I am a firm believer in the healing nature of conversation. I offer my clients perspectives that are based on keen understanding, mindful awareness as well as thoughtful consideration. What we think truly does impact how we feel and the mechanisms with which we navigate our life experiences. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice to support individuals who are interested and invested in challenging long-held core beliefs, communication styles, and behavioral patterns. A person’s desire to feel differently or emotionally healthier is well within reach… if they can pivot their thinking and choose another lens to look through… windows of opportunity to experience life from a brand new perspective are sure to be available, accessible, and achievable.
