I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have been working with families and children for over two decades as a teacher, a school counselor, and in private practice. I am here to help with the healing process and support emotions that arise through life’s many transitions. Rest assured that when working with me, you will be met with understanding, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach.
In the first session, the counselor and the client have an opportunity to get to know each other, establish rapport, and gather essential information. The client is encouraged to articulate the reasons they are seeking counseling. This may involve discussing specific issues, concerns, or goals they hope to address during counseling.
I work to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, accepted, and supported in their journey toward growth and positive change.
Amy Shedd offers therapy covered by Medicaid - Superior HealthPlan, Superior HealthPlan (Managed Medicaid) and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
I use CBT to assess the client's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and identify problematic patterns. I incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises to help clients stay present, manage stress, and cultivate a greater awareness of their thoughts and emotions.
With ACT, clients are encouraged to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than attempt to control or suppress them. This involves recognizing thoughts as mental events rather than absolute truths.
