I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I received my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Slippery Rock University. I believe that developing a meaningful relationship between the client and therapist is crucial for success. I love to empower my clients to work towards their goals. Hearing their success brings me joy. I believe that having a well rounded lifestyle is important to achieving a happy life. Having effective coping skills, getting regular exercise, eating a healthy balanced diet, maintaining positive social supports and feeling a sense of purpose in life are so important for mental health.
During our first session, we will discuss symptoms, background, history of issues and set goals for treatment. I like to get a broad sense of who my clients are and how I can facilitate a safe space for change.
I have had a variety of experiences from children to older adults. I have worked in a variety of settings from residential to outpatient. I think my empathy to put myself in the client's situation and see things from their perspective as well as see things from a solution focus so that we can navigate the path ro healing together.
I provide individual and family therapy to adolescents (14+) and adults struggling with a wide range of difficulties including, PTSD, trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, adjustment reactions, life changes, grief and loss, relationship issues, behavior disorders, anger management issues, mood disorders, codependency, sexuality and gender issues, bipolar and other personality disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, social dysfunction, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation and self-injury, sexual abuse prevention, and family dysfunction.
This is my main focus of treatment as it encompasses thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I use variations of it, such as ACT as well.
I love to help clients learn to be grounded and live life in the present instead of thinking too much about the past or future. Sometimes it's effective just to be who they are in the moment.
Trying to help a client change is difficulty at times. Motivational Interviewing helps not only me, but also the client, understand core desire to change in order to help with the trajectory of progress.
Trying to help a client get in touch with their core values and their true self is so important to initiate a sense of a bigger understanding of their life. It truly helps a person take control of their own actions and their own lives.
Grief therapy is a passion of mine. Everyone experiences grief differently. Psychoeducation in grief and helping clients go through the various stages of grief in their own way is beneficial in the client's grief journey.
