Hi! First off, I want to commend you for taking this step to try therapy. Starting therapy and being vulnerable can be scary at first and takes courage, so kudos to you for taking this first step. A little about me, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. I received my Bachelors in Psychology from the University of South Florida, and my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Central Florida. I have worked with individuals who have experienced adult and childhood trauma, domestic violence, substance use disorders, depression, and anxiety. In addition to that, I have worked with the homeless population for over 7 years. I have always been fascinated with human psychology and the way our mind works. I believe that the human mind is incredible and has unique ways of protecting us. Sometimes we have to learn new ways in the aftermath of a traumatic event, and that's okay. I am an INFJ personality type (for any MBTI fans out there) and provide a caring, sensitive, and empathic approach to working with clients. I'm not afraid to go deep and am willing to help anyone willing to process their pain gain the tools to find healing in their life. When you are ready to start the healing process I am hear for you. Contact me today and we can go on this journey together.
In our first session together, we will start off with introductions and you providing me with some background information so I can understand you better. From there, we will talk about what brings you to therapy and what areas you would like to see improve. This information will help me to create a personalized plan for us to use in subsequent sessions.
I am a deeply compassionate person with a strong desire to help those that are suffering. I have a strong desire to truly understand others and I provide a caring and sensitive approach. I have profound empathy for anyone that is suffering. I believe the client-therapist relationship is one of the greatest determinations of success in therapy. I strive to build a strong positive dynamic where you can feel supported and heard. I approach everyone with unconditional positive regard, which is a fancy way of saying that I accept all aspects of you without judgement. I believe that most maladaptive coping skills are birthed out of the need to survive and should be treated with compassion, empathy and care. All of these factors together help me to provide a safe atmosphere for healing work to take place.
I work with individuals who may feel stuck due to past trauma, depression, life issues, or maladaptive coping skills. I also provide Christian faith-based counseling to those that are interested. I love working with clients who want to explore their past and how those experiences may contribute to present functioning. Together we can identify those patterns and help you develop the tools that can be used to process and heal to move forward in life.
With the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model we will work together to address core beliefs that impact your daily living. With this model we will work together to address negative thinking patterns and develop tools to refute them.
For many who have experienced adverse past events, it can be important to re-tell the story in a way that is meaningful and impactful to them. Narrative therapy allows you as the client to be able to construct your story through your own eyes. This allows you to process your own experience in a way that is most meaningful and impactful to you.
I utilize trauma-informed care at all times while working with you. With trauma-informed care the question posed is not "what's wrong with you" but "what happened to you". Trauma should be treated with a great deal of sensitivity. I believe in honoring coping skills that may have been used to survive, while gently working through and guiding you with tools to cope in a healthier manner now.
I provide Christian faith-based counseling for clients of the Christian faith. I believe it is important to have good counsel while navigating your faith journey. For those that are of faith, it is an integral part of your life path. I strive to assist you with navigating your journey through the lens of faith.
We all may need a little help from time to time with moving from one stage of change to the next. Motivational interviewing helps you to explore any ambivalence and build off of any current motivations you already have. I have used this technique working with individuals with substance use disorders and with those experiencing chronic homelessness.
