Paula Deaun Jackson
I have extensive experience working with medically underserved and disenfranchised communities. I believe that my role is to help a patient draw from their own strengths to help them succeed. With a strong belief in family/patient centered care, it is important to address not only the patient issues, but the patient’s family dynamics/ function as well. “My philosophy of care focuses on my responsibility to the public to provide safe, holistic, family/patient-centered care.”
First session
The first session is when we will introduce ourselves to one another and establish the boundaries/rules of our relationship. Additionally, we will map out our sessions
Strengths
I bring a compassionate, client-centered approach to each session. I listen attentively and provide empathetic care, while drawing on my experience and understanding of the unique challenges individuals with ADHD may experience.
Ideal clients
I love working with adolescents and young adults who are finding the transitioning process challenging. My clients have not yet developed the skills or have the tools necessary for transition. They often are challenged with - Identity formation, - Emotional regulation which can lead to mood swings and stress, - Independence and responsibility, - Peer pressure and social relationships: balancing friendships, romantic relationships, and social expectations while trying to maintain personal values can be challenging. - Career and Educational Decisions: Choosing a career path or educational direction can cause anxiety, especially with the pressure to succeed and uncertainty
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing (MI) in my practice to engage patients in a collaborative, patient-centered dialogue that enhances their motivation to make positive behavioral changes. By employing techniques such as open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, I help patients explore and resolve ambivalence about their mental health treatment. This approach empowers patients to articulate their own goals, recognize discrepancies between their current behaviors and desired outcomes, and build intrinsic motivation for change, ultimately fostering greater adherence to treatment plans and improving overall mental well-being.
