Ryan Gay
Hi, I am a Licensed Counselor offering online individual therapy for adults. Life brings difficult thoughts, feelings, and hard situations that can pull you away from what matters most. You do not have to navigate these experiences alone. My approach centers primarily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Life brings difficult thoughts, feelings, and hard situations that can pull you away from what matters most.
Instead of trying to battle with the pain or challenges you are experiencing, we will work together to change how you relate to it.
First session
In my first session with clients, I like to spend the majority of our time getting to know their story. I do this through asking questions relating to what led them to start therapy, how their challenges are impacting them, and what they would like to accomplish in therapy. Through the questions, we can also create treatment plan goals together, and get an idea of how we might structure therapy sessions going forward.
Strengths
We will build psychological flexibility, practice mindfulness, and make space for hard feelings. From there, I want to support you to take steps toward a meaningful life, based on your core values. I aim to create a warm and comfortable space where you can bring your whole self, and move at your own pace. Therapy here is a collaborative partnership. I invite you to reach out to me if you would like to ask questions or schedule a session.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with adults who want support on how to navigate challenging inner experiences, such as anxiety and stress related symptoms. Typically, I work with people to build skills to help them to respond to their inner experiences in a helpful way. Skills could be related to having a place to slow down and process their emotions, and learning mindfulness techniques. The work in therapy would ideally help the person to take steps towards things that are important to them in their life.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
In my experience, it is not in our control what thoughts and feelings we initially experience. Instead of trying to fight those thoughts and feelings, I aim to help people change their relationship with them. That is where we would identify skills and techniques to help better navigate their life when they are dealing with pain and challenges. Through experimenting, and practicing non-judgment and self-kindness along the way, we can determine what works and is helpful towards taking meaningful steps towards the life the person wants.
