Kim Salinger
Integrative & Holistic Psychiatry — Looking Beyond the Diagnosis I combine conventional psychiatric treatment with integrative and functional medicine to explore the many factors that can influence how you feel—including hormones, thyroid function, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, metabolic health, sleep, and stress.
We often find physical health reasons as well as mental that are contributing to your mental health challenges, and we help you address those issues as well.
My approach is individualized. Depending on your needs and preferences, treatment may include psychiatric medications, targeted laboratory testing, nutritional and lifestyle interventions, supplements, and other evidence-informed approaches. I work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood concerns, gender issues, and other mental health challenges, particularly those who feel that conventional treatment hasn't fully addressed their symptoms. I believe in looking deeper, asking better questions, and working collaboratively to develop a plan that makes sense for you. A note about my approach: My practice focuses on psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and integrative treatment rather than traditional talk therapy. However, this approach can complement the work you're already doing with a therapist. My practice is best suited for individuals seeking ongoing outpatient care rather than intensive psychiatric stabilization or crisis management Added specialty for folks who are neurodiverse, 2e, intellectually & creatively gifted, highly sensitive people, sensory processing differences, Asperger's or ASD I. **Please note I do not prescribe stimulant ADHD medications to new clients.** I see adult clients and older teens (15+ years old.) I emphasize positivity, self acceptance, and celebration of your uniqueness. Friendly, supportive and non-judgmental care. People from all life paths, spiritual beliefs and cultures are welcome (including unique sub-cultures, micro-cultures and counter-cultures, such as Burners, Pagans, Waldorf & Natural Lifestyles, Seekers, Orthodox faiths, etc.)
First session
Your first visit is a comprehensive evaluation lasting approximately 60–90 minutes. Because I practice integrative psychiatry, we explore more than just your mental health symptoms. We'll also discuss your medical history, physical health, sleep, lifestyle, medications, and other factors that may be contributing to how you feel. To make the most of our time together, you'll be asked to complete my practice's comprehensive intake questionnaire before your appointment. This is separate from Grow's standard paperwork and covers additional areas important to integrative care. (When possible, please complete it at least 48 hours before your visit so I have time to review your information and prepare.) Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss your concerns and goals, and begin developing an individualized plan. My style is friendly, relaxed, and conversational, and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and participating in decisions about your care.
Strengths
I bring a combination of medical knowledge, psychiatric expertise, curiosity, and a genuine interest in understanding each person as an individual. My style is friendly, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing your concerns, and being an active participant in decisions about your care. What makes my approach different is that I don't look at mental health in isolation. Our brains and bodies are interconnected, and sometimes symptoms that appear purely psychological have contributing factors involving hormones, thyroid function, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, sleep, or other aspects of physical health. My background in family medicine, psychiatry, and integrative medicine allows me to explore those connections. I'm also not committed to just one treatment philosophy. Some people benefit most from conventional psychiatric medications, others prefer a more natural approach, and many do best with a combination. We'll explore the options together and develop a plan that fits your needs, preferences, and goals. In addition to medication management and integrative treatments, I incorporate practical guidance, coaching, and therapeutic strategies to help you better understand yourself, navigate challenges, and make meaningful changes in your everyday life. My goal isn't simply to help you manage symptoms. It's to understand what may be contributing to them and help you feel and function better overall.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with adults who want to feel better, function better, and improve their overall quality of life. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, emotional overwhelm, or simply haven't been feeling like yourself, we'll work together to find an approach that fits your needs. I have a particular interest in neurodivergent adults, including those with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1, or those exploring neurodivergence later in life. I also enjoy working with creative, highly sensitive, intellectually curious, and unconventional individuals who may have never felt they quite fit the usual mold. Some patients come to me because they're interested in exploring the underlying factors contributing to their symptoms. Others simply want effective treatment and to feel better. Both are welcome! My practice is a welcoming, nonjudgmental space for people of diverse backgrounds, identities, lifestyles, and perspectives. You don't need to fit any particular mold or share a particular treatment philosophy. What matters is finding an approach that works for you.
Treatment methods
Integrative
My approach combines conventional psychiatry with integrative and functional medicine, recognizing that mental health is influenced by much more than brain chemistry alone. In addition to evaluating psychological and emotional symptoms, I consider physical factors such as hormones, thyroid function, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, metabolic health, sleep, and lifestyle. Treatment is individualized and may include psychiatric medications, targeted laboratory testing, nutritional and lifestyle interventions, supplements, and practical therapeutic strategies. I work collaboratively with each patient to explore contributing factors, address symptoms, and develop a plan that supports both mental and physical well-being. I also have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults, including those seeking assessment for ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1.
