Erica Boyd

LMFT (she/her)20 years of experience

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 16 years of experience working with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship concerns, substance use, and major life changes. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, which has given me experience supporting people with very different needs and life experiences. My style is warm, supportive, and straightforward. I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can be yourself, talk openly, and work through things without feeling judged. I like to meet people where they are and help them better understand their emotions, patterns, relationships, and the experiences that may be affecting them today.

With over 16 years of experience in mental health, I bring compassion, curiosity, and a down-to-earth approach to therapy. I believe you deserve a space where you can show up exactly as you are, feel genuinely understood, and work toward meaningful changes that make sense for your life.

First session

The first session is really about getting to know each other and helping you feel comfortable. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been going on in your life, and what you would like to be different. You do not have to come in knowing exactly what to say or where to start. We will figure that out together. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and with a better sense of what we can work on together.

Strengths

I think one of my biggest strengths is that I am able to meet people where they are without judgment. I am warm and supportive, but I am also direct when needed. I want sessions to feel comfortable enough for you to be honest, while still helping you look at patterns, choices, and experiences that may be getting in the way. I also bring many years of experience working with people through trauma, grief, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, and major life changes. I try to balance compassion with practical support so that therapy feels both meaningful and useful.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or simply tired of carrying everything on their own. They may be dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship concerns, or a major life transition and want a space to better understand what they are feeling and why. They do not have to have everything figured out or even know exactly what they want from therapy. I enjoy working with people who are open to exploring their experiences, becoming more aware of patterns, and making changes that help them feel more grounded, confident, and connected to themselves.

Treatment methods

Brainspotting

I use Brainspotting as another way to help clients work through things that can be hard to explain with words. Sometimes you can understand what happened and still feel like your body or emotions are holding onto it. Brainspotting allows us to slow down and pay attention to what is coming up in a different way. I may use it when we are working through trauma, grief, anxiety, painful memories, or experiences that still feel unresolved. I will guide you through the process, but we always move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

For me, therapy starts with creating a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. You do not need to have everything figured out, and I am not here to tell you how you should feel or what you should do. My role is to help you better understand yourself, your experiences, and what feels important to you. I try to bring warmth, honesty, and a lot of listening into the room. We will talk through what is coming up for you, notice patterns as they show up, and work toward changes that feel right for your life.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help clients make room for difficult thoughts and feelings without letting them take over everything. Instead of trying to get rid of every uncomfortable emotion, we work on noticing what is showing up, understanding what matters to you, and choosing how you want to respond. A lot of our work may focus on getting clear about your values, noticing patterns that keep you stuck, and taking small steps toward the kind of life you want. I try to keep this process practical, supportive, and connected to what is actually happening in your day-to-day life.

Trauma-Informed Care

I use a trauma-informed approach by keeping in mind that past experiences can still affect how you feel, respond, and move through the world today. I want therapy to feel like a space where you can talk openly without feeling rushed, judged, or pushed before you are ready. We will go at a pace that feels manageable for you. I will help you make sense of your reactions, notice what may be connected to past experiences, and work through things in a way that feels safe and supportive.
