Lauren Pokras
Hi I'm Lauren, I am a Therapist and Coach providing attachment-based, emotionally resourcing care. I use cognitive and mindfulness techniques with a specialty in using creativity and self-compassion as a way to healing, empowerment and self expression.
Talk therapy with me can include gently guided art, movement, and writing to get out of the fog and into clarity and forward momentum.
I've been a therapist for over 20 years and find great purpose in my work with clients of every age and lifestyle seeking relief from burnout, emotional dysregulation, inner conflict and relationship struggles. I bring a great deal of life wisdom, enthusiasm and understanding along with my clinical skill. I support clients to integrate and share their true expression - to help clarify their needs and move out of feeling restricted and unfulfilled and into a more authentic and purposeful life. Talk therapy with me can include gently guided art, movement, and writing to get out of the fog and into clarity and forward momentum.
First session
In our first session we'll have Introductions. It is the beginning of creating a trusting relationship and a safe space to share the hard to talk about things. I'll gather background information and we'll identify your needs. I'll answer any practice questions you may have and we will get started with clearing a path forward.
Strengths
Some of my strengths are compassion, re-framing, humor, and an ability to create a space in which people can speak vulnerably and deeply so we can discover the best way to approach and solve issues. I enjoy introducing people to and facilitating creative expression. I am a movement and expressive arts facilitator and use these as therapeutic venues for myself and others. A deep sense of spirituality and holistic perspective underlies my work.
Ideal clients
I work with heart centered professional and family caregivers who don't know how to balance their needs with the person for whom they care or the workplace they serve. I get people in touch with their creative side and how to use it to get a handle on their problems, claim their voice and come up with solutions. I see clients communicate with more ease and clarity, and to give themselves permission to say who they are and that their needs and desires matter.
Treatment methods
Mind-body approach
I support clients to integrate an increasing understanding and acceptance of themselves and to remove blocks using mind-body practices and insight. I also use art and movement practices to deepen experience and connection to self. I use cognitive-behavior tools to highlight how our thinking impacts our mood, emotions and behaviors. I work with clients to relate with kinder and healthier inner dialogue so they can transform feelings of inner conflict, loneliness and disconnection. When we have a greater understanding of our self and our needs and can practice staying connected with our personal value, we live our life more authentically and with more freedom.
Humanistic
I am a compassion centered therapist. I work to help people to remove blocks that interfere with being who they want to be and have the relationships they want. I support clients to replace anxiety and depression with self affirming experiences and to deepen their understanding of themself and their relationship to their world.
