Sean Robinson
Maybe you're feeling stuck. Maybe a relationship has shifted, work or school feels heavier than it should, or you've been carrying anxiety and stress for longer than you'd like to admit. Maybe you're navigating questions about who you are, who you're becoming, or what comes next. Whatever brought you here, reaching out for support is a real step — and you don't have to figure it out alone. My work is about helping you feel better, think more clearly, and move forward with a renewed sense of yourself. Together, we'll make sense of what's weighing on you, reconnect you with your own strengths and values, and find a path that feels honest and right for you. I bring warmth, curiosity, and decades of experience supporting adults, young adults, and adolescents through life transitions, identity exploration, relationship challenges, the pressures of school and academic life, workplace stress, and the quieter struggles that often go unnamed.
First session
The first session is mostly about connection. More than anything, you should leave feeling heard rather than assessed — with a real sense of what it might feel like to work together, and whether this feels like the right fit for you. We'll spend time talking about what brought you in, what's weighing on you right now, and what you're hoping might be different in your life. I'll ask some questions to understand your story and your context, but there's no script you need to follow and nothing you need to prepare. You're welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. I'll also tell you a bit about how I work and invite any questions you have. Toward the end, we'll begin to sketch out some initial goals together — though we'll hold those loosely. Early sessions often reveal that what you came in with is just the starting point of a richer, more meaningful conversation.
Strengths
What most distinguishes my work is the integration of two professional worlds — clinical counseling and professional coaching. For more than three decades, I've worked at the intersection of healing and growth, helping people not only understand and process what they're experiencing, but also move forward with clarity, intention, and confidence. Whatever you're navigating — a difficult relationship, a season of anxiety, a decision you can't quite see clearly, a chapter that no longer fits — I bring both depth and direction to our work together. My approach is also deeply strengths-based. I pay close attention not just to what's wrong, but to what's strong — the resources, values, and resilience you already carry, even when they feel out of reach. Rather than applying a single model to everyone, I draw flexibly from approaches that honor your story, your pace, and your goals. And above all, my work is relational. Research consistently shows that the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the strongest predictors of meaningful change, and I take the quality of that relationship seriously. I will meet you with warmth, honesty, and genuine respect — and I'll show up as a real person, not just a clinician, because that's where real change tends to happen.
Ideal clients
The clients I connect with most are thoughtful and motivated — curious about growth, but often arriving at a crossroads or in the midst of a significant life or career transition. Some are high-achieving but depleted: capable and accomplished on the outside, yet quietly carrying anxiety, stress, burnout, or strained relationships at work or at home. They may be wrestling with a major decision, questioning a path they once felt sure of, or simply sensing that something needs to shift. I work with adolescents and adults who are navigating questions of identity, belonging, and what it means to live authentically. This includes LGBTQ+ clients and trans, non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals seeking an affirming space to explore identity and self-acceptance, as well as men who are working to engage more deeply with their inner lives, relationships, and sense of purpose. What my clients tend to share is a readiness to do meaningful work. They want more than temporary relief — they're seeking genuine insight into themselves, concrete movement toward change, and a renewed sense of clarity and confidence. They want to understand their own story more fully, make peace with parts of themselves they've struggled to accept, and ultimately feel better, steadier, and more like themselves. Clients often leave our work with a clearer, more compassionate understanding of who they are, real forward movement in the parts of life that had felt stuck, and a deeper sense of self-acceptance. Most of all, they feel more equipped to navigate what's hard and more hopeful about what's possible. If you're looking for a warm, collaborative space to explore who you are, work through what's weighing on you, and move forward with intention, I would be glad to walk alongside you.
Treatment methods
Humanistic
My practice is rooted in a humanistic belief that every client holds an inherent capacity for growth, self-understanding, and meaningful change. I work to create a genuine, accepting relationship in which clients can explore who they are and who they hope to become, trusting their own inner wisdom as a guide. Person-centered principles — empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard — are foundational to how I show up in every session. I trust the client to lead, meeting them with warmth and acceptance rather than directing them toward a predetermined outcome.
Positive Psychology
My work is significantly shaped by positive psychology, attending not only to symptom relief but to strengths, meaning, hope, and what it means for a client to genuinely flourish. I help clients identify and mobilize their existing capacities, building self-efficacy and resilience as a foundation for lasting change.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I help clients clarify what they want their lives to look like and identify concrete, achievable steps toward that vision. Drawing on solution-focused techniques, I emphasize clients' existing strengths and past successes, focusing on what is already working and how to build on it.
Gender-affirming therapy
I provide affirming, culturally responsive care that honors each client's gender identity and lived experience as valid and whole. My work creates a safe, supportive space for clients to explore identity, navigate transitions, and address the unique stressors they may face, free from judgment or assumption.
Narrative
I help clients examine the stories they have come to believe about themselves and recognize that those narratives can be re-authored. By externalizing problems and identifying moments of strength and resilience, I support clients in constructing a more empowering and authentic understanding of their lives.
