I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida. I use a person-centered approach most often with evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavior therapy, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or motivational interviewing that match. I give an open, nonjudgmental space to help move through rather than avoid or push aside difficult thoughts, feelings, and situations. I help with a variety of concerns from adjusting to life changes, anxiety, depression, OCD and/or unresolved trauma. For trauma work, there a few methods that we discuss and choose depending on needs: EMDR, CPT and NET. Each trauma intervention is quite different in method but the ultimate goal is the same: post traumatic growth. For OCD I use the evidence based intervention of ERP combined with ACT.
In the first session I'll get as much information as is important to be able to help and we'll collaborate on what therapy will look like and how often. It's the only session that is heavy on question/answer; most sessions are more exploration, and less direct questioning.
I tailor my approach to the person's needs and I am transparent about my ability to assist throughout the process. I think it's important to match my approach and the tools I can provide with what the person is open to and what's most helpful in the moment.
I can help build skills to manage the unexpected (or even the unwanted but expected). Stress can influence the way people see themselves and the world, keeping them stuck in past patterns despite every effort. Sometimes these patterns require specific interventions before relief. I'm here to help build skills necessary to navigate whatever life throws at you. Most of my clients have done everything they could and just need someone outside the situation to help work through their concerns.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have years of experience with CBT, it's the evidence based treatment for most mental health conditions.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe therapy is a collaborative process. We create goals for sessions and while methods are best to meet these goals.
Motivational Interviewing
I have years of experience in a residential substance use and cooccuring mental health treatment facility. Motivational interview is the evidence based intervention for substance use treatment and was used daily. I continue to use it to develop rapport and ensure that when we're building treatment plans we're magnifying goals, removing barriers and resolving any remaining ambivalence toward change. After all even when change is positive it takes energy.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use ACT in conjunction with other evidence based interventions to clarify values and goals. This helps answer the 'why' when the 'how' is difficult or motivation is low.

Susan is wonderful. She allows me to vent for a short time and then redirects me to achieve better skills for problem solving in all areas. Suzanne presents a safe atmosphere where deep and significant life issue can be addressed. I have nothing negative to say about her.
