LCSW, 11 years of experience
New to Grow
I’m Mere Abrams (they/them), a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of experience supporting LGBTQIA+ youth, young adults, and adults, as well as their parents/caregivers and family members. I specialize in creating intentional, affirming spaces where clients can ask questions, process experiences, build coping skills, and feel more grounded in their values and who they are. My work is rooted in recognizing/breaking patterns, building confidence and resilience, and developing a deeper understanding of and connection to self and others. I also identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In our first session, we’ll slow down and focus on what feels most important to you. I’ll ask questions to better understand your history, your goals, and what you’d like to get out of therapy. You can expect a nonjudgmental, collaborative space where your voice and experiences guide the process. We’ll also discuss next steps so you leave with a clear sense of direction.
I bring both lived experience and professional expertise to my work, which allows me to build trust and connect with clients. Over the past decade, I have gained expansive knowledge on the topics of sexuality, gender, gender-affirming care, and healthcare navigation. I create intentional, safe, affirming environments for LGBTQIA+ individuals and those questioning aspects of identity. I previously worked in mental health, medical, and community-based settings supporting trans and non-binary youth and adults, and have published and presented widely on gender and gender-inclusive care. I am skilled at helping clients recognize patterns, tap into resilience, and build coping tools that support long-term healing and growth.
I work best with clients who want an LGBTQIA+ therapist who is both supportive and collaborative, to walk alongside them as they ask hard questions, deepen self-understanding, explore identity, build connections, and navigate life transitions. Many of my clients identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or are seeking support to manage anxiety, depression, trauma, or gender dysphoria. My ideal clients are curious about themselves and committed to honest self-reflection, growth, and showing up, even if they’re unsure where to start.
I view therapy as a powerful tool for self-understanding, healing and growth. By co-creating a space of trust, authenticity, and nonjudgment, I work with clients to explore how their past and present relationships shape their emotions and experiences.
Together, we will explore patterns, early experiences, and underlying emotions that influence present-day challenges. Making sense of both the conscious and unconscious dynamics helps clients gain new insight, shift unhelpful thinking habits, and create room for choice, healing, and self-acceptance.
I approach therapy with an understanding of how different types of trauma can impact the body, mind, and relationships. I prioritize safety, consent, and collaboration in every session, honoring each client’s pace for sharing while supporting healing and resilience. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, grounded, and empowered to process past experiences, engage in self-reflection and growth, and move towards a place of deeper acceptance and understanding.
Every person carries resilience, knowledge, and resources within themselves. My role is to help you identify and build on your strengths so you can feel better equipped to manage mental health symptoms and live a life aligned with your values, even as you navigate life’s challenges.
