Hello! My name is Gabriella and I am a marriage and family therapist. I currently live in Indiana. I have been in mental health since 2011 starting out in behavioral therapy working with autistic children. Currently, I am an outpatient therapist who focuses on individuals, families and couples. I have worked in outpatient and residential settings with my main clientele being children and adolescents. Currently my practice focuses on couples and individuals over the age of 18. My passion is in helping others improve their own lives and working towards their individual goals by encouraging and helping them to 'take back their power' and feel more confident in making decisions. I like to use a more conversational style of therapy, I do not like for sessions to feel clinical or sterile. I take a collaborative approach to therapy and allow my clients to guide sessions. I utilized various methods from evidenced-based to a mix of holistic approaches. Please take the time to fill out the intake paperwork as it helps me prepare for sessions.
At our first session, this is our 'get to know you' session. This allows laying the ground work for trust building and increase comfort in attending therapy. I earn my client's trust and their willingness to let me know their story and current concerns. By the end of the first session I like to identify some goals to keep sessions on track.
I feel that I connect well with others and this allows me to create a safe and comfortable space to allow for progress. My experience in the mental health field has allowed me to experience and work with a diverse populations. I am myself a culturally diverse individual which has allowed me various experiences that others may understand or have experienced themselves.
Working with individuals and couples who desire change and are motivated to create that change. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I look at the whole picture that the individual or couple are apart of allowing for a more systemic approach to therapy.
Gabriella Canen offers therapy covered by UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Indiana.
Utilizing a couples based therapy model, I explore and access for communication patterns, conflict resolution patters, increasing self awareness and trust between a couple. This can help to identify concerns and barriers to progress.
I like the 'bones' of CBT, this allows for increasing self awareness, how thoughts and feelings impact choices and behaviors; identifying unhealthy thought patterns and identifying when to challenge them. Increasing self awareness of how one works and the 'why' of their choices which allows for better decision making in the future and regaining emotional control.
Narrative therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the individual's own story and experiences as a way to understand and overcome challenges. It focuses on empowering individuals to identify, challenge, and rewrite negative narratives that may be impacting their lives.
This method is a brief goal-oriented approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes finding solutions to current problems rather than dwelling on past issues.
