I am a bilingual Spanish-speaking Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, EMDR-certified, and currently completing my Somatic Experiencing certification. I work with a diverse range of clients navigating many different challenges, including complex trauma, a lack of coping resources, anxiety, dissociation, life transitions, and grief. I am trained in several therapeutic modalities, such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, and Expressive Arts. I hold a master's degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and graduate degrees in Expressive Arts from San Diego University for Integrative Studies and Ecopsychology from Naropa University. My journey in this profession began with the personal development books I encountered early in life and a deep curiosity about what makes us feel the way we do. Personal and diverse challenges further deepened that curiosity and desire to work with others within the safety and focus of a therapeutic setting.
In our first session, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our work together. Your comfort level and the clarity of your goals will guide the pace of our sessions and your progress in therapy.
My communication style is collaborative and reflective. I aim to nurture your perseverance and creativity while offering a safe, focused space with steady support in a thoughtful therapeutic setting.
During sessions, clients can expect to use their strengths to create opportunities to meet therapy goals and enhance their capacity to face challenges.
I identify as
EMDR

Polyvagal Therapy

My first session with Alejandro was unlike any first therapy session I’ve had- there were getting to know you questions, sure, but he immediately responded with consideration, empathy, and actively listened when I became emotional, encouraging me to sit with myself. He gave me actionable support to reconnect with and ground myself, and the flood of stress that I’d been holding back was able to flow from me. Thank you- looking forward to future sessions!

Alejandro Maya is warm, direct, and genuinely authentic in his approach. He brings an intelligent and humorous presence to every session, while also challenging me in the best possible ways. His work is holistic and empowering, always guiding me toward practical, solution-oriented steps. I appreciate his open-mindedness and the way he creates a space where real growth can happen. These are just a few of the many qualities that make Alejandro one of my favorite practitioners to work with.
