My name is Nicole Lucente and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I believe that counseling offers a unique opportunity for self-exploration, healing, and growth that can lead to improved well-being and a higher quality of life. I have many years of experience in a variety of settings (outpatient, college, and inpatient) working with adults and teens to address a number of concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, life transitions, family conflict, emotion regulation, stress management, coping skills, work related stressors and burnout, neurodiversity, addiction, parenting, grief, and more. I am passionate about helping others and am honored to witness my clients overcome hurdles and move toward the best version of themselves.
Whether you have been struggling with challenges and symptoms for a long time or find yourself facing a new challenge or transition, I am here to provide support. In our first session I will seek to gain a thorough understanding of your unique needs, we will identify your goals for counseling and establish a plan to achieve them.
I am warm and energetic and work to create a space of healing, growth, and acceptance. When needed, I can be direct. I use humor and creativity in the counseling process and provide individualized care. I have a passion for helping my clients resolve unwanted symptoms and work through challenges.
My area of expertise is treating anxiety disorders (social anxiety, general anxiety, panic attacks, imposter syndrome and more). My approach to therapy is person-centered and trauma-informed. I use a variety of evidence-based models such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Therapies, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is used to address unhelpful thought patterns that affect our feelings and behaviors. It is an evidence based practice that is proven to be highly effective at treating a variety of concerns such as anxiety, depression, and much more.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is proven to be a highly effective model of therapy to address a variety of concerns. It specifically helps individuals to build skills to help them manage emotions, tolerate distress, and improve personal relationships.
Motivational Interviewing is sometimes used by itself but it can also be used in conjunction with other models of therapy when an individual feels stuck or is having trouble initiating changes. This therapy involves a close collaboration with the therapist to help explore the individual's motivation for change.
Mindfulness Based therapy allows for the individual to learn skills for managing stress and improving their overall mental and emotional well being. It teaches individuals to interrupt and redirect unwanted thoughts, feelings, moods or sensations and to move toward a non-judgmental pattern of thought. It also allows for the practice of self-compassion. It aids individuals in improved self-regulation leading to the reduction of a variety of unpleasant or unwanted symptoms.
