Hi! My name is Angie Misenheimer and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor based in the piedmont of North Carolina. I received a Master Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and have been practicing since 2012. I help Veterans and adults of all ages struggling with stress, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, anger management, and with setting and achieving goals in any phase of life.
In our first session together, my focus is on creating a comfortable and welcoming space where you feel safe to share. We'll start by discussing what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you may have. I'll also ask about your personal history to better understand your experiences and how I can best support you. This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, and together, we'll begin to create a plan tailored to your unique needs.
My greatest strength as a provider is my ability to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel truly seen and heard. I have a deep sense of empathy and a collaborative approach that helps clients feel comfortable exploring their challenges. Additionally, I'm skilled at tailoring therapy to each individual's needs, drawing on various evidence-based techniques to empower clients and help them achieve their goals.
As a therapist with experience working with military service members and veterans at the VA and in private practice, I understand the unique challenges that come with military life–both during and after service. My background as an Army medic has given me firsthand insight into the stress, trauma, and sacrifices that come with serving. I have a unique understanding of the difficulties of transitioning to civilian life, the help needed to manage combat-related stress, and coping with the lasting effects of service. In my work at the VA, I have supported veterans dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the impact of moral injury. I specialize in helping servicemembers and veterans navigate these challenges by using evidence-based approaches tailored to their experiences, whether it is processing trauma, improving relationships, or finding purpose beyond service. I believe in a practical, down-to-earth approach to therapy-no fluff, just real conversations that lead to real change. If you are looking for someone who understands but the military mindset and the complexities of mental health, I am here ready to help.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my practice, I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns that impact emotions and behaviors. By focusing on practical tools and strategies, I work collaboratively with clients to develop healthier coping mechanisms, improve emotional regulation, and achieve their personal goals. My approach is empathetic, solution-focused, and tailored to each individual's unique needs.
Supportive
My approach to therapy includes the supportive treatment method, where I prioritize creating a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment for my clients. Through active listening and encouragement, I help clients explore their challenges and strengths at their own pace. With years of experience, I've seen this method fosters trust and empowers individuals to gain insight, build resilience, and achieve meaningful progress in their lives.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
In this practice, solution-focused brief treatment (SFBT) is used to help clients identify their strengths and work toward practical, achievable goals. This approach is collaborative and future-oriented, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. With my experience in SFBT, I guide clients in discovering what's working in their lives and building on those successes and to create meaningful and lasting change.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
In my practice, I incorporate mindfulness-based therapy techniques to help clients cultivate greater awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in the present moment. This approach encourages a nonjudgmental and compassionate attitude towards oneself, which can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and foster a deeper sense of well-being. These techniques support clients in developing practical tools to manage challenges and enhance their overall quality of life.
Eclectic
Overall, my practice is rooted in an eclectic approach, allowing me to draw from a variety of therapeutic methods to best meet the client's unique needs. By integrating techniques from evidence-based models such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness-based therapy, I tailor my work to align with the goals and preferences of each individual. This flexibility enables me to provide personalized, effective support to help clients navigate the challenges and achieve meaningful growth.
