My name is Marie Mason and I moved to the United States in 1994 to teach. My work with children eventually led me to counseling. I have been licensed for seven years and I work with all ages. I really like doing trauma work, which is why I am EMDR and TF-CBT trained. I also do a lot of work with anxiety.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I always give a little bit of background about myself to make sure that I have skills that compliment what the client is looking for. Then we spend some time looking at history and figuring out what the client wants to get out of their time with me. It's usually a very relaxed 'get to know you' session, as you need to be comfortable with the person you're going to work with.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am very committed to what I do. If I don't know the answer, I will figure it out. People tell me that I am easy to talk to and I make them feel comfortable. I do want people to be better versions of themselves. Ultimately, my job is to work myself out of a job because my client is feeling confident enough to handle things on their own again. I feel like I really care about peoples' well being, so I am always very genuine as well.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that helps to settle the fight/flight response that comes with trauma. It can help to manage triggers and decrease anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT looks at the interaction between thoughts, feelings, and actions. We can learn to behave differently if we can identify how our thoughts and feelings affect what we do. Fundamental beliefs about ourself can be modified so that we can act differently, especially if our behaviors are not healthy.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT is designed for children to help work through a traumatic event. It is usually a 12-16 week protocol that works through emotional regulation and then, once trust is established, moves to the trauma narrative and processing. It calls for a partnership with caregivers to help the family heal together.

Experiential Therapy

Should you come in person, we offer equine therapy which is an experiential therapy. Horses pick up our energy and can help us manage our anxiety, sadness, and impulse control.
