I'm Christy Turnquist, a dedicated mental health professional with over twenty years of experience in human services, mental health counseling, and behavioral health. As the founder of Breathe, LLC, a clinical private practice in Florida, I focus on empowering clients to take intentional steps toward a balanced, healthier, and successful lifestyle. I hold a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management. My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Faith-Based Therapy to guide clients in their healing journey. A two-time cancer survivor, I offer coaching through cancer, rooted in my belief in God's grace. My passion lies in promoting healing, self-love, and empowerment, especially within the BIPOC and LGBTQ communities, as well as improving children's mental healthcare. I strive to be a pillar in my community, holding values of diversity, inclusion, and self-sufficiency close to my heart. Whether you're seeking support for mental health challenges or looking to embrace a more fulfilling life, I'm here to help you take that first step.
In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment where you can openly share your concerns and goals. We’ll start by discussing what brings you to therapy, your personal history, and any specific challenges you’re facing. This session is an opportunity for us to build rapport and for me to understand your unique needs. We’ll also explore what you hope to achieve through therapy, whether it’s managing anxiety, improving relationships, navigating a career transition, or addressing other issues. I may introduce some of the therapeutic approaches I use, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, or Faith-Based Therapy, depending on what resonates with you. Together, we’ll develop a plan tailored to your goals, outlining the next steps and what to expect in future sessions. My aim is to ensure you feel heard, understood, and empowered to begin your journey toward healing and growth.
What makes me unique, strong and able to serve you as a provider is a combination of faith, professional expertise and personal experience. My academic background, including a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management, gives me a solid foundation to guide clients through their mental health and life challenges. On a personal level, being a two-time cancer survivor has profoundly shaped my approach to coaching. I’ve experienced the physical, emotional, and spiritual trials that come with significant health challenges, which allows me to offer empathy and insight, particularly for clients facing similar battles. My experience with career counseling, supporting single parents, caregivers for elderly parents, adolescents, young adults, aging adults, those who are homeless or facing homelessness, behavioral health, mental health and wellness counseling enables me to connect deeply with clients navigating major life transitions. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In my private practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that contribute to their emotional and behavioral difficulties. By working together to develop practical coping strategies, my clients gain the skills to manage their thoughts and emotions more effectively, leading to improved mental health and overall well-being. CBT's structured, goal-oriented approach allows clients to see measurable progress, empowering them to take an active role in their healing journey.
Motivational Interviewing
In my private practice, I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore and resolve ambivalence about making positive changes in their lives. This client-centered approach empowers individuals by enhancing their intrinsic motivation, allowing them to recognize their own capacity for change. Through open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, I support my clients in discovering their own reasons for change, leading to more meaningful and sustained progress.
Faith based therapy
In my private practice, I incorporate Faith-Based Therapy to support clients who seek to integrate their spiritual beliefs into the healing process. By combining traditional therapeutic techniques with Christian principles, I provide a holistic approach that addresses both the emotional and spiritual needs of my clients. This approach helps clients find strength and guidance in their faith as they navigate life’s challenges, fostering a deeper sense of purpose and resilience.

She was incredibly helpful with grounding the conversation. I kinda feel like first sessions can be tough because so many things to catch a therapist up on but we covered everything we needed to without it feeling rushed or anything which I attribute to the way she guided the conversation. I feel like I have a plan the time until my next session and I highly recommend her to anyone hesitant to start therapy.
