Welcome! My name is Nathan Edwards. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a background in working with individuals from all backgrounds, ages, races, and genders. I have 10 years of counseling experience working with young adults at a small Liberal Arts School, and currently, I've been working with individuals ages 12 to 90 years plus for the past 7 years in Texas. I specialize in working with individuals who are struggling with the stressors of everyday life, which include but are not limited to PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, men's issues, relationship struggles, Spirituality, youth with problematic sexual behaviors, executive functioning skills, and managing difficult emotions. I am a Christian cognitive behavioral therapist trained in EMDR, and I use tenets from motivational interviewing, DBT, behavioral, and solution-focused therapy.
In our first session, we will discuss challenges you are currently facing, mental and physical symptoms that are inhibiting you from living your best life, and discuss events in your life that have impacted you in positive and/or negative ways.
Counseling is a safe space where you don’t have to pretend everything is “okay” or hide what you’re battling through. Clients say I create a safe space where you feel heard and validated. Let us talk. I am here to listen and hear you. I want you to openly share what is troubling you and help facilitate a plan that leads you to inner peace, joy, and hope.
The clients I have the most success with are individuals who are willing to be truthful about how they feel and willing to stay dedicated to the therapeutic process.
Nathan Edwards, MA offers therapy covered by Parkland Community Health Plan - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Texas.
Mental health struggles may relate to feeling distant from God. In therapy, I use the Christian worldview to connect researched-based practices with our faith in Christ to develop a more accurate view of our meaning and self-worth to God. E
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is used to help the client briefly focus on a traumatic memory, which is associated with the reduction of vividness and emotional association with the memory. This process allows clients to go deeper to heal and function in environments where they struggle to find peace.
I have used CBT to help provide insight into areas of inaccurate negative cognitions or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them more effectively.
DBT is a research-based treatment that I've used to help clients manage their deregulated emotions and improve relationships with family, friends, and co-workers.
